Today we announced a historic agreement to combine with @UnionPacific to create America’s first transcontinental railroad.
Together we will unleash the strength of our nation’s economy and preserve union jobs. The combined company will aim to be the safest railroad in North America, ensuring every team member goes home safe to their families and advancing Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern’s proven technologies for further safety improvements.
We are excited for what this combination can deliver our stakeholders.

Do you think the deal will actually happen? I guess I didn't realize we didn't have a transcontinental railroad until I saw the news a few days ago. My guess is this deal will be blocked though.

One of the greatest technological achievements of the 19th century is the completion of the first transcontinental railroad across the United States. Visitors to the park can see the location of the Last Spike Site, 1869 railroad construction features, walk or drive on the original railroad grade, and get an up close view of Victorian era replica locomotives. “Preserve union jobs”
You mean do the absolute bare minimum or nothing at all and give no power to the employer to enforce action or terminate the union employee.
