i mean, there's a wide spectrum of people in credit card debt. There absolutely are the idiots who go on Caleb Hammers YouTube show, but there also are people who just get dumped on at the absolute wrong time

This is true but that stupid crap is someone else's job. Our economy is based on consumption.

Link?

Rumor?
Graffiti?

Anything to back up your assertion that most only pay the minimum?

you know i was just assuming and putting 2 and 2 together but after looking at it, while a pretty big estimation gap exists, it looks like most of the research points to the majority of americans making more than miminimum payments on their cards every month

fair enough

Exactly. It’s not a flex to say you have no mortgage, auto loan, etc when there is money to be made by not paying off debt.

I have 2 personal mortgages, 3 mortgages that cover several rental properties, a business loan, 2 car notes and a student loan. While I don’t currently have any CC debt, I once had over 60k while I was in the process of acquiring a new business.

If I sold my investments and paid off those loans I would make less per year than I do if I keep the loans.

Well. It CAN be a flex. If someone else bought you those.

The person I married bought our home prior to our marriage. The car I drive was paid almost entirely from the insurance payout of my previous car (happened to have this happen when used cars were through the roof so the value of my car was $4k more than I had paid, which insurance gave me).

So. No car loan. No mortgage. No debt.

If someone bought it for me, I’d mortgage it and take the cash to make more money

Inflation is not helping, but that's not a free pass to have not cut back appropriately and live within your means.

I watched a few Caleb Hammer episodes. That young man now gets to make a living because people are idiots with money. Stopped watching because he only ever shows dumpster fires, so that got old, but it's also depressing. With all the education available instantly and literally at people's fingertips, I've lost all sympathy for people who can't make good decisions. There are no better natures to appeal to.

Not really an option if you see my edit re: the mortgage. Lol. Although I guess you could argue that I don’t have a mortgage since I’m not a homeowner but that gets fuzzy when you’re not divorcing the actual owner.

I guess I could have pocketed the insurance money for the car, but since Dad paid the last $10k, I don’t think he’d have given me the money if I did that. Parents are weird.

But a free $10k is a free $10k, so no way I would have declined it.

Unless the balance is high in which case they sue you and garnish your check from work.

I’ve seen it happen
