Americans are "burning through savings at an alarming rate"

In April, the personal savings rate in the US ticked down to a 14-year low of 4.4%, according to the latest figures from the Commerce Department.
That's half the rate it was in December, and roughly a third of where it was the year before. Many households are already in negative savings territory, meaning they are increasingly tapping into their savings to cover purchases each month.
"This isn't a normal recovery, and that fiscal stimulation is still in the pocketbooks of consumers," JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon told investors at a conference this week. "They're spending it, they're spending at very strong levels."
But, he added, the drawdown could mean that consumers have only about six to nine months of spending power left.

The combination of high spending and high inflation means Americans are burning through savings at a rate that could have them running out by the end of this year, he said. More than eight in ten US shoppers are planning to buy fewer things in the next three to six months, according to a recent survey from the market research firm NPD Group. The survey also found that consumers bought 6% fewer items in the first three months of 2022 than they did during the same period in 2021
2023 is going to be bad for a lot people

$40 billion to Ukraine during this.

I’m a divorced guy who lives alone, and I can already see the amount that I was able to save each month dwindling.

In other "no shite" news, Amber Heard has not been near Johnny Depp's bed today.

I have to say I’m thankful I’m making a lot more money than I was about a year ago. I’d be pretty fricked if I was trying to live on my 2020 salary.

The middle class is getting fricked badly right now.

Well that is not surprising given record high inflation with no corresponding wage increases.

People need to stop trying to keep up with the Jones's.
They understand little what they are doing running up their credit card debt.
Also, this country has got to do a better job of informing the younger generation how to handle money, and I mean the basics. I watched a college educated person the other day in car a deal and they werent even prepared for that.
Unfortunately atheletes are not good financial role models.
I was floored.

This is bullshite cherry picking data. What the article completely ignores is that mean tweets are at an all time low. Disingenuous article is disingenuous.

I'm not sure how single households do it? Having a spouse making a good living certainly helps a lot.

I agree with all of this, but that’s been the case for a long time before what’s happening now. I’d venture that even the best middle class budgeters are struggling a bit right now.

It's all in that book that came out in 1848 or so; the one that the Left has been trying and is still trying to implement.
They hate us in their lust for power and total control, and they do not care how they harm us.
