Let's hope. I could sell my property here, get a condo in Vegas and live on hookers and blow until the inevitable heart attack.

if Amazon were to locate to Arlington it would not increase traffic all that much

Arlington has actually grown substantially the last several years and has seen a reduction in traffic. Mainly because they are smart about the growth

I spend 12 minutes. The fact people may stay in areas with high commute times mean high salaries, high quality of life, low crimes, amenities, things to do, etc. Since this area has the most educated population in the USA, apparently they are smart enough to know a good thing when they see it.

Yes, but now the toll on I-66 will be $67 one way

It has been a semi-open corporate secret for months Amazon would select Northern Virginia. Bezos does not care about cost of living, he cares about a technically skilled population and political considerations around regulations. I welcome Amazon to the DC suburb of Arlington.

Phew, ATL dodged that bullet.

Whenever the final decision is announced, I predict a lot of statements like this from the people living in the cities that lost out.

"Whew, thank god we didn't get those 50,000 jobs!"

Wait, what happened to New Orleans? Thought Amazon was going to revitalize the 9th ward.

I don't see many of the people working at HQ2 living west on 66 though

I agree. They'll probably live in those brand new high rise condos on Lynn St near the Rosslyn metro. Those places look veddy-nice.

ETA: just joking around about the high toll price on I-66. I love the live look-ins on the morning news.

"Well, if you were to hop on I66 without EZ Pass Flex right now it will run you about $48.72"

And the hint a few weeks ago was that the Alexa Super Bowl commercial had Austin listed when a person asked for the weather.

Austin and NOVA have always been argued as top candidates, and rightfully so, but people are really getting ridiculous trying to argue that something is a hint.

I laugh at the 66 tolls...until they start it with 395 in the beltway and I start paying

I already saw people argue this from Cincinnati and Cleveland when they didn't make the final 20. I know Columbus is probably a long shot, but I'll be still be disappointed if we don't get it.

Now I could see people from cities like Boston or New York OK with not winning since the overall relative economic boost wouldn't be as great as some of the other cities, especially considering cost of living is already so high and there will he an inevitable incease.

But arguing that it was better for any region overall to not get picked is just ridiculous; it's just more ridiculous if one isn't in one of those powerhouse cities.

DFW housing market needs to cool off. Kinda sucks that we didn't get it though.

How do you know this, and why wouldn't he care all else being equal if that increases the costs of operations, salaries, construction, etc?

Of course. But if he could get highly skilled population in say Atlanta, especially given the transient society we live in now, and the costs are billions lower, why wouldn't he give that some serious consideration?

I don't know for sure but perhaps for the same reason a lot of other big companies in the northeast still make tons of money, build, expand, etc here

not to be a snob but Atlanta doesn't hold a candle to the educated population of the DC area
