You didn't earn that downvote. This is completely true.

People take the soulless, grueling Amazon job for shitloads of money. It's not complicated.

believe some tech bros have been trying to acquire land in CA to do that but have been getting a lot of pushback from the locals

It’s not a couple tech bros.

Look at how many mayors of major US cities signed up for Agenda 2030 / 15 minute cities.

I’m talking about places like Miami, not just Portland or whatever.

Get your nose out of the air, you corporate people are no more valuable than warehouse workers or anyone else....

I think the point is that Amazon Warehouse jobs have a high churn rate. Corporate jobs typically don’t.

30k or the Google searched 350k jobs. A 10% cut is significant, but if a billion dollar company is cutting 30k jobs, either you were not very good, or you weren't really needed and a computer can do your job by itself.

Span of control. In corporate to get promoted you need to have a certain size team depending on your level and within that the higher level employees reporting to you (preferably a peer or two). So people across the company were incentivized to hire people they probably didnt need so they could put that into their promo doc. Then once they rotate to the next role theres a half dozen dudes that dont really need to be there.

Jassy called out a few years ago that teams had gone rogue and hired way over their headcount plans. That would be why.

They do, just not as much. Amazon is known for being a corporate sweatshop as well.

For frick sakes, how many people were doing the same job?

Crazy to me that society isn’t planning in any visible way for a time when employees just aren’t needed.

Well society isn’t, but their are definitely players in the world that are planning it.

Covid was a test run of it.

Once they have the numbers for robotics and automation to replace enough of the workers it’s a wrap for the human race as we know it.

The vast majority of big publicly traded corporations are extremely overstaffed in the management and white collar type positions.

Musk cut 90% of Twitter and there was no visible difference.

Just think about your job if it's an office job. Every job I've ever had at least half the company is basically worthless. There are people who make power point presentations all day. Does the company actually need those to exist? The number of people who contribute nothing of value is way higher than you'd expect.

Huh, didn’t know that. I have two former coworkers who (as far as I know) were at Amazon for a while so I never would have guessed they chew through their staff that fast.

In any event, I don’t think that guy’s point was a “white collar is better than blue collar” point. Hell at this rate of AI advancement, we might all end up as blue collar workers at some point.
