I think 35E is better now that construction is finished, especially with the express lanes.

The Atlanta metro, I assume.

5 core counties (Fulton, Cobb, Dekalb, Gwinnett and Clayton)
12 outer counties (Cherokee, Paulding, Henry, Bartow, Douglas, Fayette, Hall, Pickens, Gilmer, Forsyth, Walton and Rockdale)

Georgia Tech, Emory, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Morehouse and Spelman are all good to great.

There are a lot of community colleges but a lot of four year colleges as well.

I’m actually genuinely curious.

Eh, I think Atlanta has enough access to local college talent that it is not a drawback for them. Disregarding that they recruit internationally, Atlanta tends to serve as a pretty big center of gravity for Duke, UNC, Wake, Emory, Vanderbilt, etc. alumni along with all of the SEC and a good chunk of the ACC. In the same vein, that's a big, big plus for Chicago. It's a center of gravity for Wisconsin, Michigan, Northwestern, U of Chicago, U of Illinois (one of the best engineering programs in America that loses a ton of kids to the West Coast), Notre Dame, and a hell of a lot of other top tier schools.

I thought you had some inside info on this and knew the location?

The Amazon people that I know are all convinced Boston is the answer, but who knows. They are in positions that they would probably know if a decision has been made.

So this is why they aren’t coming to Louisiana?

I went to Columbus one time. We came out with a W, so that was a plus. Nice enough city, but that was back when Hineygate was still around. Don't underestimate the impact of that going away on Amazon's decision.

He's probably President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of the Columbus Tourism Board.

Or chief OT Baller there. Which is much better.

I feel sorry for folks who have never driven the new stack slips from Bush to the SRT. It can be confusing as frick!

You take an exit marked for 35E but never get on 35E until 2 miles down the road

Did someone say Murder Kroger?

In!

Yeah ATL makes sense...the hub

An hour from the mountains, 2 hours and change to the beach/Savannah...

The GA school system will generate some solid enough employees...

I'm not totally sure I understand how that would impact a decision such as this. If it's on a prioritized list, I would think its somewhere around 72nd.

I remember in the big Amazon thread a while back someone mentioned Pittsburg as a dark horse candidate. I can definitely see it.

Either you have lost your mind or you know absolutely nothing about Memphis. Memphis is a shitehole and has zero to offer Amazon.

Memphis had enough to offer FedEx. Their World Tech Center in Collierville employs thousands.

Pittsburgh definitely has an outside shot.

I think it's going to Boston or the D.C. area though.

Each has its drawbacks:

Toronto, Chicago, Boston, and Pittsburgh all have real winters. That's a big drawback IMO.

Chicago is a good choice. Relatively affordable for a big city. It has big airports, good recruiting ground, and it is big enough to absorb that size of company.

50,000 new employees in Columbus or Pittsburgh would strain the hell out of their housing market, transportation system, and public schools. Pittsburgh is spending about $1 billion on their airport for a new terminal, but they'd have to make an adjustment in those plans if Amazon went with them. Columbus also has an outside shot. It's a sneaky nice town.

Washington DC has a lot of traffic and high costs of living. It's otherwise desirable though, with good rail and air connections to NYC, Boston, and Philly.
