I was one of those before moving here 6 months ago.
But there’s some awesome areas in the metro area (Virginia Highlands, Inman Park, West Midtown, Buckhead, Midtown, Little 5 Points, downtown Roswell, etc).
You’re also close to a large number of wineries in North GA, you’re at the foothills of the Appalachian Mts, and Charleston is 4 hours away. I think Atlanta is great

Decatur, Vinings, Emory, Lake Lanier
Also Savannah is 4 hours. Stone Mountain Park and Kennesaw Mountain are local gems.
