This morning is the funeral for Birmingham Police Sgt. Wytasha Carter, who was tragically shot and killed responding to a burglary early last Sunday morning. His body is being escorted from the suburb of Trussville to Birmingham for a public service. The amazing thing is that the procession of police vehicles includes vehicles from across the State of Alabama and the country. I’ve seen vehicles from Florida, Indianapolis, and New York. In this sad situation it’s a remarkable and heartwarming thing to see.

Here is a picture of a well over a hundred police cars waiting for the procession to begin (via Carol Robinson of AL.com)

I’ve seen the same thing for an officer funeral here in TX. It is a somber and powerful sight.

Impossible. The mainstream media outlets assure me that police officers are vile racists.

Some people suck, but there are still many who care for others than themselves. We’re losing more of that every day, unfortunately.

Godspeed to this officer and his family.

The even sadder thing is that people responded to this picture on Twitter with comments like: “Quick, go rob all of the banks” and “Tax dollars hard at work.”

Some people are just horrible and lead a sad existence.

Three thousand late 80's pickup trucks, twelve thousand teeth, and a Shetland pony pulling a Radio Flyer wagon with a tiny Alabama flag draped coffin in it.

I was at two of the processions for the three Baton Rouge officers killed a couple of years ago. It took about an hour for all the squad cars from out of state to pass by. It was a sad, humbling and uplifting sight all at the same time.

it's been a really nasty day in Bham so far

glad to see that it did not seem to diminish turnout

Link to article about GoFundMe for the fallen officer

I know his kids went to Hoover schools, so I assume his widow still lives in Hoover

Why do you support thug criminals over police officers?

Awful. Whoever said that probably doesn’t even pay taxes- because I wonder how someone who thinks that way could even hold a job.
I agree- people say some awfully calloused things. RIP, Officer.
