Lost in the deep woods in Maui for 2 weeks was found yesterday. She was near a water source and ate moths and vegetation.
Who goes hiking alone- especially a female- without her cell phone(left in the car)?
My gut is getting the exact same feeling that it had when I first heard about the Jussie Smollett case. This doesn’t pass the smell test...

She had some type of leg fracture- but

Her boyfriend, while I am sure was legitimately concerned about her wellbeing and fearing she was dead, was probably thinking the whole time “holy shite, they’re gonna suspect that I did this”.

So, instead of just walking across the island, her thought was just to stay put?

Worst case scenario, you get to the ocean and you just follow the ocean back to civilization.

Not really any pineapples left on Maui and not a very easy fruit to harvest and eat without a large knife.
The area she was in is not joke, like much of the Hawaiian topography away from the ocean it is seriously rough going even on the trails. If she was decently far inland there wouldn't be near as much to eat as near the coast. Anyone that has ever driven the Hana highway has some idea of the ruggedness of the terrain, it is like a rollercoaster.

Yea, having lived and hiked all over Hawaii, it is easy to get lost and strandaded due to the waterfalls and difficult terrain. However, you find a water source and follow it down river to the ocean. Don’t go uphill and follow the water.
