It's best just to stick your phone in the glovebox. It's an easy habit to start and actually reduces stress too!

It's a huge issue. I see people all the time crossing the center line because they are looking at their phones instead of the road.

To me it seems like almost half of the people are surfing or texting with their smart phones

Last week a car directly ahead of me goes off the inside and overcorrects. The car goes sideways and everybody missed him so he goes down the banking on the outside and wraps the rear driver's door around a tree. Two feet from death, the two freshmen students were out of the car and both still holding the phones. Probably had to Snapchat the near death experience.

I started doing this as well. I turn it on silent so I can't even hear the text alert. If it's a phone call, it comes through the car system. Everything else has to wait.

I drove back from Texarkana to South Ga on Friday and lost count of how many people I saw texting and driving. Got behind some idiot in the left lane going 55 in a 70 texting and couldn't pass for a couple of miles due to the line of 18 wheelers who were passing in the right lane. If they want to kill themselves that is fine with me, but stop putting other people's lives in danger because they can't wait a few minutes to answer a text. I wish the police would actually start enforcing the law, but saw quite a few just roll on past someone who was very obviously texting and driving.

I'm too busy texting to notice how many people are doing. I'm actually posting this while driving down I-10.

I see it all the time. It's scary how many people are out on the roads not paying the least bit of attention to driving.

This past May on the last day of school a guy I grew up with lost his son because of it. The son was coming around a curve on a two lane road while trying to text. He crossed the yellow lines and hit a school bus head on. The good news is there were no kids on the bus. Bad news was this kid who just finished his last day of his junior year in HS was killed instantly.

The best is driving to work in the morning when it's still dark and every vehicle is lit up from a phone.

....sorry, just realized I had working instead of work...

They're usually in Chargers and Sebrings as the main culprits.

People just can't put their phones down. I was at Costco and 50% of people were using their phones. When I see people holding them against their shoulder I want to scare them. Cuz it seems like the right thing to do.

It's not the texting part...it's ANYTHING that takes your focus off of the road and onto your device.

Like you, I'm sick and fricking tired of driving and feeling like I'm one of the only one NOT driving what must be a fleet of fricking self driving cars, but it sure as shite does not look like most people are paying a lick of attention to the actual road. I swear, half the people I pass on Verot School Road coming out of Youngsville towards Lafayette are looking into their crotch rather than out of the damn windshield.

This is actually one of those times where I'd be fully supportive of allowing fellow citizens to enforce this rule with a swift and severe beating of anyone caught doing this...

But...the problem is people that do this don't give even the tiniest shite about you. Their phone and whatever they are doing takes precedence...you're simply not as important as whatever the frick it is they're doing, so you're never going to reason them out of this behavior.

They either need to be or already are working on something to fix this.

My thoughts would be forcing phones to be plugged in to vehicles - of the car won't drive. Or something within the phone that senses motion and shuts down at 20mph or something.

Now, blutooth calls on the other hand are fine in my opinion.

But texting --- it is FAR WORSE than drunk driving. Something needs to be done quickly.

Did anyone see the picture of the corvette that ran underneath the 18 wheeler? The driver was DECAPITATED but he was still holding the phone in his hand.

Serious shite - worst part about cars is morons are endangering numerous lives, not just their own.

In Fl the politicians tried for years to pass a bill banning it. When they finally got it done, they attached a fine for it. The fine is $35.

If they would put a $500 fine and enforce it, they could stop with all of the chickenshit ticket writing that is done to raise revenue.
