It's really insane how often you see it if you look for it.

Considering that the brain isn't capable of focusing while multitasking, it's amazing we don't see more accidents.

Driving back home one day, some moron was swerving like crazt crossing over lanes and stuff. I drive up next to him and give him the ole "get the frick off your phone" gesture. Dude was irate..got to the red light and he jumped out of his truck and charged my truck.

Light turned green just in time and a police officer was there to see it all

No, youre not the only one. I also get a bit of road rage when people are driving slow in the left lane because they are talking on the damn phone. I say that anyone caught using the phone (talking or texting) should have a hefty fine to pay. I use hands free or pull over when I need to use the phone. These other idiots are getting people killed.

A buddy of mine that owns a body shop used to pray for rain to bring him business from accidents.

Since texting and driving has reached epidemic proportions, he has expanded his existing shop 3 times and is now opening a second location.

We need the self driving cars to get here soon. People just don't care or don't fully realize the danger they are to others.

I drive on a stretch of interstate that is stop and go for about 15 miles, usually where you only get up to about 50 mph. I'll often see drivers on their phones when they are going around 30 mph and have witnessed three rear-end accidents that can only be explained by phone use (i.e. everyone brakes except the driver causing the accident).

Any douchebag going slow on the interstate is either a blue hair or on the phone.

Or a black person. Have no idea why, but black people are almost always going below the speed limit. Couple black buddies at work call this CPT. (Colored people time).

I guess they can say shite like that though

Penalty should be equal to or worse than DWI, actually way more dangerous than DWI, at least a DWI is trying to focus on the road, texters no fricking way...

tickets may be enough to change that behavior, but they are not being ticketed. most people have never been ticketed.

I honk at them.

my women passengers (wife, one of our girls) freak out when I honk at them. people are afraid of being shot.

I hate when women are on the phone trying to drive in a packed parking lot with just one hand on the wheel. I yell at them. few are contrite.

In LA, first time offense is $500 and second offense is $1000. Cops DGAF though as seen by the zero texting and driving tickets given so far this year.

It's extremely dangerous and a cash cow, yet they haven't enforced it one time outside of a DWI stop

It will become important to law makers when it becomes the politically correct thing to do like when MADD pushed for tougher DWI laws...

There is an app I have called DriveMode. When my gps senses +15 mph it goes into drive mode. No notifications and if I receive a text it auto sends a response that I'm driving and call me if you need me. It will ring through if my phone is connected to my car on Bluetooth though. It also limits the apps I'm allowed to access to navigation and music. It can be overridden though.

It's a habit I literally look at each car I pass and its staggering the % of people who text and drive. It is not limited to young drivers either. Tons of adults men and women do it.

I drive about 10 hours a week for work - all highway, and I never see someone texting while driving. Also, everyone only uses the left lane for passing.

This is in Germany, of course.

Seriously, when I moved here, it was one of the first things I noticed. Everyone is a better driver. It's awesome.

Cops need a way to be able to take a picture of people when they are texting and driving for evidence. There's no way to prove it unless the perp gives up her phone or the cops subpoena the phone records
