Your reference to this through your experiences almost certainly isn’t the same as other people’s. Try and keep mindful of that.

I’m not advocating not doing that, but sometimes people need a little bit more than just shaking the dust off. Best thing you could do is be there to encourage them, love on them, and make them feel like they matter in more than what they can contribute, but as a person they matter.

No offense, but this is incredibly stupid.

Well in some of those places there is no concept of transgender so those depressed people being in the wrong body do not exist.

Neither does the stress of managing hundreds of people. Bush people arent jumping out of skyscrapers because the stock market crashed.

So you think the root cause of depression is just not having enough “stuff”?

It just means you lack empathy. Some people have it, some don’t. I don’t struggle with depression, but there’s shite out there you see that makes it understandable that some people struggle with mental health.

This is growing problem with today’s society imo and is a result of too much crying wolf. Are mental health issues real? Absolutely. However, acting like every little issue is a mental health problem has watered it down and makes some people skeptical of everything causing some people with real issues to be overlooked.

Figured you had about the maturity level of a toddler. My roommate in college acted like you and he seemed like one of the most unhappy people I ever met. One day you will experience real trauma and have no idea what to do. Hope it works out for you.

gross oversimplification. however, ironically, one of the solutions to having peace of mind is to simplify your external stimuli. the less you are exposed to, the less you will worry

thats not sociopathic, thats just good mental hygiene

Folks like you and me live by the motto, "don't sweat the small stuff." Also, if you're like me, you have a ton of self confidence and know you're better than everyone else. I only worry about the stuff I can control.

Again, the privilege and freedom of this country falls on ungrateful shoulders. Depression is a made up disease. Our forefathers for hundreds of years had it hard. Life has never been easier. It’s lonelier due to internet but it’s all self inflicted.

People aren’t grateful for shite and cry about being depressed when things don’t go their way. Frick that.

Well, i was going for more of there are diff things to feel depressed about.

Yes, living in port au prince slums would be depressing for any of us middle class people.

But that's all those people know, so is it as depressing for them? I don't know?

In the US we have really wealthy young females that have everything they could want but are so depressed and filled with anxiety. Even the sound of Trump's name sends them into a tailspin of despair.

Someone close to me is from a 3rd world country. He said a lot of people from there who move here have mental health problems. It’s because there isn’t as much day-to-day stress there. Same shack, same people, same thing day in and day out. Few decisions to make, slow pace of life.

Yep, have a parent, spouse or child die? Just take a deep breath and go about your day

I felt the same way as you, and then one night in my early 30s I woke up at 2am with my heart beating like a jackhammer and feeling like I was dying. The same thing happened again 5 days later while sitting at my office desk, and then another a couple of weeks after that. I was having panic attacks, but didn't know it. Eventually I was able to get help from a good doctor who would actually listen to me, and overall things have been good since.

There is no discernable reason for me to struggle with these attacks. I've got a great life, and have always handled stress very well. But then I found out that many members of my family have mental health issues like anxiety and depression. But I know now that there is no "walking off" this stuff...it is vile, and if you don't have issues with it, then thank God.

Days of real men like Gary Cooper are gone. Whatever happened to the strong, silent type? Today’s men are in touch with their feeling, you can’t shut him up now, and are part of some victims group

Gary Cooper couldn't keep his pecker in check and was rumored to have raped Judy Garland when she was 16 and he was 39.

I know a guy that was repeatedly abused by his own father when he was a young boy. Do you expect people like that not to have some personal problems later in life?

Or, stay with me here, they have had shite in their last/biological issues that generate this stuff. I am an anxiety/depression mess, but definitely what you would consider a high functioning adult. Ironically I kick arse in insanely high pressure situations because when you live most of your life at a 9 on the anxiety scale, it's easier to bump up one extra.
