Both clearly became part of "pop culture" -- especially Nirvana.

Eh. Nirvana is a weird special one that has become the pop culture reference of 90s alt culture, for no other reason than Kurt being suicided/clinton’d. People today know of nirvana but don’t know why they know of nirvana.

Alice In Chains can’t even say that about itself. Certainly popular within its subculture, but they never breached into actual pop culture.

Its purely superficial garbage.

Life just became too easy and art reflects that.

My 9 year old told me "bet" the other day when I asked if he wanted Chick-Fil-A.

Then my 10 year old's buddy did it yesterday.

So i asked the 10 year old last night what it meant.

He said it just means "yes" or "I agree"

I said, whey dont your friends just say "yes"

He said, because its not "the olden days"

I disagree. Nirvana became more "pop culture" in real time than they even are now, even though, yeah, they are seen as the sort of cliche 90s band in retrospect.

There just don't seem to be much avenues anymore for "counter-culture" to make a splash and become "pop culture" like they did.

No, I'm saying people used to have to get really good at music, practice, rehearse, try, fail, reboot, try again, then really nail it.
There are still bands like this, they just generally aren't spoon-fed to you.

People don't have to do that anymore. Make a song about how bad your pussy stinks and get a million clicks. Profit.
So? It's really easy to not click.

You would think people would have gotten tired of all the references to pussy and money, but rap is still thriving somehow....

It's crazy, because rap is like a free for all. If anyone said half of what they say, they would be cancelled into oblivion. It's the wild West for them though.

They did, I’m 50 and my dad use to laugh at all the 80s hair bands dressing up like women. He would even say Hank Jr, Waylon, Etc ain’t real country

Do you think museums should get rid of curators and just let people off the street hang up their art on the walls? Do you think museums would be better or shittier in that scenario?

Don’t ever pick a random week from the 70s and look at the Billboard list or the top films

I dont know how anyone could argue that the film industry hasnt gone to shite. I just now picked a random year, 1984, and looked up the summer movies:

Red Dawn
Ghostbusters
Beverly Hills Cop
Star Trek III
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Revenge of the Nerds
Nightmare on Elm Street
Gremlins
Toxic Avenger
Terminator
Romancing the Stone
Repo Man
Streets of Fire

Compare that to the dreck they put out so far this year.

You're just getting older.

We had Alice in Chains and Nirvana.

And most older folks during that time thought those bands were ridiculous.

Current music isn't my thing and I can't for the life of me understand why kids/young adults these days like it, but it's popular for a reason.

The world ain't a museum, bro.

There are endless options today if you want a curated stream of music. Quit whining and take your pick.

You're walking around the slums complaining that the graffiti isn't appealing. Go to a museum, dipshit. Then go to another one.

cell phones, it has zapped the creativity out of people. no more going in the garage with your buddies and creating a band and having a jam session.

Vanilla Ice has talked alot about that.

Modern culture as promoted by the Mainstream Media sucks more than any other time in History.

If you are willing to look, there ARE tons of talented folk out there.
