We may just have the word of the officer that was on top of him trying to control his arm
And that seems to not sit well with most people, but if the guy did have a gun, I don't see any reason to doubt the officer as of right now.

Has it been released yet that Alton 100% had a gun?
If so, there's no way these cops will ever be punished from the video I saw. Who knows what happened before the video started.
Maybe the cops didn't do everything 100%, but Alton certainly did a lot of things 100% wrong.

At that range he was definitely at the very least incapacitated at the first point blank shot
You know how dumb this statement is?

If he pulls his weapon he gets blasted for excessive force and profiling a black man without real cause. I mean, he hadn't actually seen a weapon. Now he's got his gun out and is trying to tell a suspect who's already shown he won't comply, to comply. The most likely outcome of that scenario is the guy getting shot anyway
My biggest issue with that reasoning is most people have argued they did know he had a gun, so once again, tackling him escalates the situation more because it puts the officer in a physical altercation with an armed suspect who, as you already said, showed no intent of complying.
I asked earlier in this thread, but what would you do if you were in the officer's situation?
I think a legitimate argument can be made that a civilian tasked with the same job would go a different route, particularly if the civilian lost the legal protections that a LEO enjoys.

sure, but this cop has his partner with him. once two shots are fired, i'd like to believe two good police officers could do their job to restrain the guy.
you know nothing about law enforcement. if a cop fires his weapon, its to kill, not wound. he fires until the threat is neutralized knowing full well death is likely.

quote:They're being accused of coming in guns drawn??? That was what my quote was in reference to, I haven't seen them accused of that.
They're being accused of it even though a gun was recovered....
quote:I don't know what that means, to be honest. Officer's safety first doesn't equate to coming in shooting, so I'm not sure what you're saying there.
If this were the case no cops would be questioned when they discharged their weapons in a situation where they were informed that the suspect had a gun.
quote:Oh, I don't care about the general public. I just have a hard time believing that, by policy, the officer should put a perp's safety ahead of his own.
The fact is, cops are expected to put their lives second unless they are clearly attacked first. At least by the general public.

Does no one find it a little convenient that BOTH body cams "fell off" I could see one, but both?

The 911 call was because he threatened someone with a gun
Report says a gun was recovered.
Witnesses state he had a gun
Store owner says he saw them pull a gun from his waistband
Cops yell in video he had a gun.
Possibly another individual in the video yells he has a gun.
It was confirmed by his family member he had just bought the gun recently.
He had a gun

Has anyone watched the periscope posts from today? They have several videos of gatherings at the Triple S.
Watch the one called "Head back to the #AltonSterling Memorial Site" starting at the 26 minute mark.
One of the guys tells this group of ladies that their signs look crappy and they all get pissed and start arguing.

But I think it's a safe assumption at this point.

And even if they did "Fall off" dont you think that footage has to surface showing them for sure falling off? This seems like the key to the whole incident IMO

why did he resist? Didn't tell cops he had a gun? That's how you get shot.

I know that. Why didn't he?
Maybe he didn't get the pamphlet after he got out for his last felony. Felons can not possess firearms.

Trying to wrestle the gun away before any shots are fired is a bad thing, in your opinion?

How the hell would this guy pass the background check?

Id actually say it is very inconvenient. It will show what led up to going hands on. Even if they were still wearing them it wouldn't show much from being such close quarters imo

Because Tyrone on Gus Young where he bought the gun doesn't do BG checks.

Ok cowboy you go wrestle a gun away from a guy thats bigger than you and see how that works out for ya.

Watch the footage, see it on them while talking to the guy, see them confront the guy, see the cam fall off during the scuffle.
It should easily be determined whether this was so or not, I'd think.
