It seems like they could get some DNA or something on the bullet casings. I’d be willing to bet the person(s) that did this has been arrested before.

Best you could hope for would be a fingerprint. Probably only a partial due to the size/shape of a casing.

So why tty to make the media the bad guy here. To their credit local media has been all over this story.

The thugs and gangs are the evil here. Those sworn to protect deserve criticism too for failing us, but in this case the media is doing their job.

Heat and DNA are a bad combination. Fingerprints are possible but unlikely.

How so? You don’t think someone is going to talk when the reward money tops $200K?

You understand that’s there’s multiple Federal agencies involved in solving this, not just BRPD?

Once the reward is $300K+, the hood’s gonna start singing.

If that doesn’t work, the reward will continue to grow.

This murder isn’t like others. Somebody knows something and they can’t keep a secret forever.

The biggest issue I foresee is a lack of hard evidence tying anyone to the crime scene unless they’re able to ping cell phones, pull DNA from casings, etc. Even if you get someone in the hood to give you a name, you have to be able to present a decent enough case to the courts to get a plea or conviction.

Shooting happened in the middle of the night.

Apparently the supposed witness(s) are either unreliable or flat out lying.

If there’s no videotape that picked up the murder, police don’t know if it was 1 person or 10 at the scene of the crime.

I’d imagine the gun has been dumped. Doesn’t matter if the reward is $1 million, there has to be evidence to get a conviction.

Sadly, unless the local police or the Feds have evidence they aren’t coming public with, this won’t have a good resolution.

Nah, I can't get behind this. This is your kids future, not everyone in the family's future. Sure there should be some considerations given, but making it a family decision is pretty selfish.

You can't get behind a family decision for a child's college choice?

A lifetime decision made by a teenager, likely paid for by others, potentially costing in excess of 6 figures, should be left solely up to a 17-year-old?

Negative. That's not how my family rolls and I have raised three extremely successful children, all LSU grads (or soon to be).

I never told my children where they could or could not go to school, but I laid out the financial commitments for various options and LSU made the most sense each time.

If your child completely bucks what you want and does something totally foolish with a college choice, you've probably already failed as a parent and this poor decision will be just one in a long line of them.

Local news had a story last night about President Tate giving her a degree at the next graduation.

If this is true, then I applaud Tate. I've been very critical of him.

I still think he needs to address the murder directly and make a statement on what LSU's role should be in protecting students.

LSU provides the buildings, technology, and personnel to educate students. They are in no way responsible for what happens to kids off-campus.

Doubtful, but possible. If they are waiting, you would think their palms would star itching pretty soon. Don’t think they would be considered very patient when you’re talking about that kind of money.

Decades ago my former-lawyer boss at LSU quietly taught me the meaning of this phrase. Sure, its official power on colleges had already been long-depreciated by that time, but his feeling that we should at least try to look out for those much-younger stuck with me.

No one is saying they are responsible. I’m saying they are responsible for addressing the murder of a student, and discussing potential dangers for students in Baton Rouge.

Well they sure as hell want to punish kids for “things” they do off campus especially if it doesn’t fit the “narrative” of the morons in charge.

Two posts above yours says $200k. What makes either of these the “magic number?”
