You guys got lucky because a handful of nerds that went to Stanford decided not to leave Palo Alto.

This. And the insane amount of venture capital that came about from the tech industry since the 90s.

Coastal California is gorgeous, but you have priced out 90% of america to live there.

Seriously, California can no longer afford the debts that it has and is going to be in dire economic constraints. Electricity prices have increased and housing has sky rocketed as well as overall cost of living. We aren't even out of the economic impact of Covid and the end results. Imagine the housing/economic collapse if unemployment does not decrease and everyone flees CA for cheaper areas to live.

Cali had a vibrant economy long before the tech boom.

Well, as much as I despise so many things about La (mainly people and weather), I still would never live in Cali.

This is not even close to being true. It’s like you’re parroting a line from a movie not based in any real fact. You think Cali’s economy is only tech? It has one of the most diversified economies in world. From tech, to biotech/medical, media, film, the largest agricultural economy in the country, largest shopping economy on and on.

Birmingham still sucks but you are correct about the food. There has been a strong improvement in restaurants over the last decade or so.

it’s also possibly the most concentrated economy in the country. 99% of the residents don’t benefit from it. in fact they suffer due to artificially inflated housing prices

LMAO at all the know nothings talking about the cost of living. Guess what, people make a lot more money in California and are more easily able to affford it. I live great when I'm in California. I tripled my income over what I made in Louisiana. Now I have the best motorcycle riding roads in the country, all the bands I want to see play concerts here, the weather is fricking, the people are friendly as can be and don't judge everyone else like they do in the south, legal weed, tons of stuff to get out and see and do. It's fricking bad arse here in San Jose. And I really enjoy my time in San Francisco whenever I go there. So many cool bars and restaurants, music venues. It's a great city to just set off in a direction and go walking.

Most folks that bash on California haven’t been west of Dallas.
