Who here is shocked? They put a microphone hooked to the internet in their house and then seem surprised that it recorded a conversation and sent it to someone on their contact list.

Who here is actually using these things?

quote:

A woman in Portland, Ore. claims that her family's Amazon Alexa smart speaker recorded a private conversation and sent it to someone on her contact list, KIRO 7 News reports.

The woman, named only as Danielle, received a phone call from one of her husband's employees in Seattle, who received a recording of the conversation. On KIRO's video, Danielle holds up a number of Echo Dots, claiming that "it was one of these that sent it."

He proceeded to tell us that he had received audio files of recordings from inside our house," she told KIRO news. "At first, my husband was, like, 'no you didn't!' And the (recipient of the message) said 'You sat there talking about hardwood floors.' And we said, 'oh gosh, you really did hear us.'"

Amazon even admits that it happened.

quote:

"Amazon takes privacy very seriously," Amazon said in a statement to KIRO 7. "We investigated what happened and determined this was an extremely rare occurrence. We are taking steps to avoid this from happening in the future."

I love that this poster says this while putting in bold that it's an extremely rare occurrence.

Of course I'd be shocked...anyone in their right mind would.

I put that in bold because it was Amazon's excuse. As if I believe that shite. It is bad enough that they admit it occurred. What did you think they would say? "This shite happens all the time because our software is fricked up. Don't sweat it."

Nobody in their right mind would ever believe that about one of those big arse tech companies. Guarantee you they’re sending all your info straight to the government too.

It’s hilarious people don’t realize this.

I tested this out with a buddy who didn’t believe it. Got him to talk about chocolate and candy bars for about 5 minutes straight.

1 hour later he had kit kat ads on his Instagram.

People who are paranoid about this stuff make me laugh. What are you doing that anyone really cares about?

It reminds me of those people who get freaked out that you can find someone's address and phone number on the internet. Have these people never heard of a phone book?
