If she was really grieving she might have been perpetually drunk during leave. That coupled with knowing she wasn't coming back, maybe she just said "frick it"

didn't watch but a few secs of it but severe sleep dep can have the same affect, my money is on she's probably fricked up though

It seems like there would be a producer to step in and say she's not going on the air like that. They had to have someone else in the studio that could read the Saturday news - let the meteorologist sit up there and do it if not.

Most people on the OT are too young to remember Pat Shingleton when he was on the air doing weather in BR.* Him and his brother were partners in Zee Zee Gardens (a bar at the overpass across from Ivar's).
We would sit at the bar and get shite hammered. He always sat right by the side door at the end of the bar and parked his car on the side of the building. At about 9:50, he would jump up and take off down the road. A few minutes later there he was on the TV over the bar smiling and seemingly 100% sober. He would finish the weather and be back on his stool before the final sign off at 10:30. It was clockwork.
*Just looked it up and the interweb says he just retired last year. I thought he was gone many moons ago. That dude was old when I drank with him in college. Geez.
