His problem was it took a while to diagnose the disease.

And he does prove that old age is not kind to all men and some do lose their looks. But he is still alive and not all can say that.

GTFO. The dude looks absolutely phenomenal for 90.

I don't know of a single human being who doesn't lose the looks as they age. Especially people who reach their 80s and up.

He was great in MASH. I'll leave his politics out of this.

Yep .

I want to see how the OP looks if he's lucky enough to make it to 90 years old... Also, even though "Hollywood" gets a bad rap, Alda seems like a decent, stand up guy in interviews ive seen over the years (im old enough to remember MASH in its original run).. or at least as decent as someone can seem without ever really knowing them .

.

Captain Kirk could still steal most of y’all’s ladies.

Alda doesn’t look awful. And, yes, I had assumed he croaked some time ago.

I have found through experience that simply living long into your 90s and beyond is often not as good as you think when you are a child.

Ive never met Alda, but ive been in a room with Shatner .. worked on a project with him a few years ago, on the production side, only for a few days.. he's literally 5'7" at most.. much like most of the posters here .. still, it's a truism that women will frick literally anything that's famous.. so you might be right .

I know a guy in his 90's. He's in an assisted living home but he seems to be doing pretty good. He still has friends that pick him up and they go to lunch or dinner. Still has kids and grandkids that come around. He's in a wheelchair but always seems to be in a pretty good mood.

If Alan Alda is doing that, then he's probably still having a pretty good time.

At 89 my dad was doing great, other than some pretty bad arthritis. Still driving, still going to the office part time. One day in June 2025 he was watching LSU in the CWS and couldn't get up out of his chair. Diagnosed with AFIB which progressed to heart failure and it was steadily downhill after that. Shortly after his 90th birthday he had a pacemaker put in and never really recovered from the surgery. He kept getting more and more frail, spent the last few months in a nursing home and died last May. He had a good long run and most of it was with a good quality of life, but even at his advanced age I was surprised at how quickly it all went. I thought he might hang on for a couple more years but he was tired and I guess he was ready to go reunite with my mother..

Getting that alien tang added years to his life, the man banged everything that moved in space.

When I was a kid, I wanted to live to be 1000.

As a 50+ year old, I don't have a desire to get much past 80 at this point. My family will just about all be gone. Many friends will be gone. I won't be able to do the things I enjoy like golf. There is a 50-50 chance that I won't even be able to live on my own and will need help. I don't see a lot of upside to it.

I never liked MASH. Mom loved it though.

Your version of being 80 is darker than is mine.

I’m around 10 or so 80+ year olds that I’ve known for at least 30 years and most of them are in really good shape for their 80s.

Age 90 is my version of your 80 fear.

Focus on living well, not just a long time.

Modern medicine is keeping people around well past their god-given expiration date.
