But two years and if true got him to confess to a murder so he’d be sent there just seems they’d have to at least once or twice think yo themselves what the end game. But as you said obviously not.
I'm not thinking this started until he got there. She had nothing to do with the confession that got him sent there.

anyone else mention its weird that someone who is an assistant director for a county correction facility would be able to retire at the age of 56?

I find it more weird that they fled to Indiana? They had a 5 day jump start on everyone...leave the US

It wasn't 5 days. Your comment still stands though.

I believe she was a widow so might have had some insurance money from the deceased husband to live on

According to what I read earlier, she was married for 4 years and divorced 16 years ago. Her ex died of Parkinson's in January. I don't thinks she would have received any money as a result of his death.

She would have been a tier 1 employee under Retirement Systems of Alabama (whichever sub section of that a sheriff's office employee falls under). That means - IIRC- she would have gotten a slightly smaller percentage for each year's service and the required number of years and earliest eligibility for retirement would be much lower than anyone who started a state job after 2010, or so. She would have been vested at 10 years, but I believe she would have had to have served more years to get a full pension before 62, I believe (may be 20 for cops/fireman and 25 for everyone else). If she had 8 years with some other state agency, then she could have for sure easily retired with full benefits at 56.

That kind of system, of course, is unsustainable and the legislature made changes after 2010. Now it's 25 years to get a full PLUS your age and years of service have to equal 80, or some such. Only hangup is if you don't qualify for Medicare or have a be spouse who can include you in a family plan. They still let you buy into the state employees insurance plan, but you pay the full premium on which is $6-800/mo, depending.

Maybe we will find out some facts after all.

Casey White May Be Telling the Story

quote:

Casey White waives extradition hearing In jail in Indiana Tuesday, Casey White waived his right to an extradition hearing. "I want to go back to Alabama," Casey White, wearing a yellow jumpsuit and orange slides, said while appearing virtually before a judge from Indiana's Vanderburgh County jail. When he returns to Alabama, he will immediately go before a judge for an arraignment, and then be transferred to state Department of Corrections custody instead of county custody, Singleton said Tuesday. Casey White has been speaking freely with investigators after his capture, Wedding said Tuesday. "He was pretty candid with the investigators last night. They had a fairly lengthy interview," Wedding said.

One of them apparently called 911 and Vicky said she had a gun.

quote:

In dispatch audio from Evansville police, a dispatcher noted during Monday's chase that "we could hear her on the line saying she had her finger on the trigger." The dispatcher earlier can be heard saying "they're calling into 911."
It's not clear who made the 911 call. Authorities have not released the audio that they believe contains White's voice.

Good call on that one. Little late, though.

How's this for a twist:

Everyone was of the opinion that he would wind up killing her. What if the crazy, drug-addled convict wasn't the most dangerous of the two and the ugly blonde got so sideways that big ears called 911 because he was in fear for his life?

Life’s tough when you’re traveling with a charged murderer, and you still have to shoot yourself.

Another update from the same site.

"Recaptured Alabama fugitive Casey White intended to have a shootout with law enforcement, and would have done so had pursuing officers not forced White to wreck in a ditch Monday in Evansville, Indiana, a sheriff said Tuesday.
"Had we not (forced him into the ditch), the fugitive was going to engage in a shootout with law enforcement," Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding told reporters, citing White's interviews with investigators after his capture.

"That action may have saved many of my deputies' (and other officers') lives," Wedding said.

Investigators found guns and about $29,000 in cash in the vehicle White was driving Monday, Wedding said.

Authorities preliminarily believe that White's passenger, former Alabama corrections officer Vicky White, shot herself "once the vehicle crashed," Wedding said. She died at a hospital later Monday.
A coroner will confirm whether Vicky White shot herself, Wedding said.
"(Casey White) said he was probably going to have a shootout at the stake of both of them losing their lives," Wedding said."

Thanks for the clarification. I got my information from the travel ball mom's gossip that I overheard at practice the other night. I figured they all lived in the same area they would know more than I would since I live 2 hours away from there.

I'm not sure why, call it a hunch, but I doubt he would have gone through with it.

Maybe he was planning on death by cop. She would have had to help if he was planning a true shootout.

I give the dude credit where credit is due. He wasn't getting out, so no time added to his sentence really matters.

He pulled a 15 year scam for 9 days of freedom. Totally worth it when you are looking at life.

Right. Anyone can retire at any age they want and obviously for what she had planned she wasn't concerned about what monies could be received because she wasn't going to get anything anyhow.

I wonder how much meth he squeezed into those 9 days?

Gummint employees can usually retire after 30 years of service, regardless of age.

I’m obsessed with this case for some reason. Where did y’all see that it was nipple clamps she bought at the sex shop. All I heard was she went to one before the escape

ETA oh yeah, where did the rumor about scoring meth come from?

It lines up with what bronc, or whoever that marshal on here was , that said they couldn’t act on the first tip they got because of who called it in. It could be that he did buy meth there and the dealer tried to collect on the reward money but they knew he wasn’t credible
