WFT is this idiot talking about? I have both my downstairs and upstairs thermostats set to 70 and that’s where it’s been in my house all day. And the high today in my North Alabama hometown was 97.

Pick up or borrow an infrared thermometer and check it against your thermostat. Don't be surprised at the difference you might find, especially older t-stats.

I'm currently living in my 5th wheel, parked under a lean-to shed off my shop. Hooked up to 50 amp and both ACs blazing. It gets up to 80 inside when it's 100 out. Not very fun.
Been living in this fricker for 12 weeks now. Should be ready to move into the fully (and extensively) remodeled house.

The TXU customer service guy gave me the same speech.

Yeah, I'm calling bullshite on this one. I have a big arse house. Last year, during all that rough heat, I could still manage 28 to 30 degrees lower inside, at least downstairs. Upstairs, I could do 22 to 24 lower on a good day.

Anthony Cook lies like Jim Schlossnagle. His air conditioner is sitting on 69, lol

Dudes full of shite. He is mixing up the I take of the ac with the output at the vents which should be 15-20 degrees difference. So internal air in house is 75 you will feel 55-60 coming out of vents.

my HOA would allow it I’d totally have window units for my bedroom. Something about the air those things put out just hits right.
My hoa bitched about mine so I installed a mini split that’s uglier, blows colder, and is more efficient.
Honestly if I built I think I would go with one of those multi head mini splits for the bedrooms and a smaller central to manage the common areas.

What ya want to bet that Anthony Cook is a DEI hire or DEI promoted by Alabama Power.

Anthony Cook with Alabama Power says that rule is based on industry-standards for the way most air conditioners are designed. He says your AC unit will typically lower the temperature in your home about 20 degrees from what the temperature is outside;
This guy is a moron. It has nothing to do with outside temps. The 20 degree drop is between your return air and your vent And it’s not a set “rule” it’s just a general guide to if your ac is working properly.
So if it’s 72 in your home and the return air is 72 then your vents should be around 52. Few degrees either side and it would still be considered operating normally.

You would be incorrect my friend. I mostly live at the beach and my daughter said the the heat index was like 106 today. I checked my phone, and it’s a cool 70 degrees inside. This is a geo-thermal unit which may play by different rules.

I walked into Matherne's on campus today and some people were walking out that looked like they were on break from a meeting. Dude says to the woman, "So, I guess most people around here use A/C?"
Dude, do you not feel the weather around you?

What? Man, my Aunt P would keep that house at 63 dog days of summer. Had to bundle up at night.

The more electricity you use, the more money the company and shareholders make. This is lip service to appease the regulatory bodies that govern them. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
But wouldn’t that mean they’d be encouraging people to run the AC more or at least stay neutral/silent?
Posted on 6/26/24 at 6:48 am to adamau
I don't believe that. In 100 degree heat my thermostat is set at 72. Thermometer confirms indoor temp.

Sounds like this guy doesn't understand how efficient modern homes and A/Cs are

100 degrees outside
I set the thermostat to 70.
That 70 blowing all day non stop feels better than 80 that kicks off from time to time
