The Poarch band of Creek Indians are the reason there is no lottery. They have paid tens of millions to ensure that it hasn't reached a ballot in two decades.
Yep, but they weren't the ones convincing Alabamians that the lottery was evil. The indians were funneling money to the Christian Coalition to convince everyone that the Lottery is the devil's work. I knew 2 different people who went around knocking on doors on behalf of the Christian Coalition to vote down the lottery. It was a shite show.

Are they going to threaten to cancel football season?
Posted on 7/27/16 at 5:36 pm to GFaceKillah
They could save a lot of money if they closed the University of Alabama.

Sisters across Alabama count on having a few hours off on Saturdays during the fall.

jk, wasn't necessarily talking about just AL, but the practice of rolling over and spreading them just to attract a business to relocate to your community, it's always way too one sided and the locals rarely seem to benefit, goes for new pro stadiums as well
Pro stadiums are the worst.
Airbus has been great for that area..My cousin landed with them as soon as he got out of the coast guard. Great paying jobs there, and Mobile had a very low cost of living.
But yeah, I do find it hilarious/infuriating when governments give out so many breaks to companies to move there, that it ends up having a negative impact. But politicians love saying how many jobs they've helped create. So there will always be a town that'll bend over with a smile.
Oh, and Colorado has a lottery. And legal weed. I believe I'll roll up some blue dream when I get home. My shiskaberry has been making me fall asleep.

That and the fact that Mississippi lobbyists spent millions of dollars in Alabama making sure it didn't pass the first time; that's why Siegelman and about 20 others are in prison now. Well part of the reason anyway.

If the dumbasses in this state would've voted for it in 1998 the last time it was proposed, by a democratic governor who was elected on the platform of bringing Alabama a lottery, we might not have this problem.
It's funny that you think a lottery would have fixed the issues you have. LA has had one for decades and the budget is always short.

Too much of the money going to take care of those states' democrats.

Hyundai I believe instead of Kia.
Seems like there's one other import besides Benz and the Tundra V8 motor plant...maybe it is Kia.

Obligations for the implementation of federal programs where the money is distributed in block grants.

I guess you're right. I thought they did. Add them to the handful of other states I listed in a prior post. Maybe it's 4/48 that don't have the lotto instead of 4/50. I read it awhile back.
But MS does have gambling and a shitload of people go to Tunica, Philadelphia, and the Gulf Coast from AL.
A lot of people from this area go to Tunica almost every weekend.
Hell they even draw a few folks for Bingo.

Gov. Bentley sucks!
Mobile County ....Dauphin Island, Bayou La Batre will not get any BP funds! Governor and all the Rednecks North of Mobile want all the BP funds in the general fund.
Governor still thinks Dauphin Island is apart of Louisiana

Because the original bill wasn't a Lotto only bill; it actually was a bill to legalize all sorts of gambling once everything under the sun was tacked on it. It was documented in court papers that the Mississippi lobbyists were funneling money to political parties, political campaigns and the various church groups through out the state that was opposing the bill as well as funding the anti gambling campaigns that were taking place as well. It was dirty as frick.
