plus Airbus and Mercedes, guess that's what happens when you sell your soul to foster "industry"

If you're from Louisiana, I wouldn't talk about selling your soul to industry. My dad is a civil and environmental engineer. I was born in Louisiana, but we left because it was so polluted, my dad didn't want us to get cancer. It's gotten a little better, but Louisiana has bent over and spread their cheeks for industry for decades.

It was particularly bad in the 80s.

And fyi, my dad is very conservative. He just knew what they were allowed to dump in the ground and rivers.

No, but you seem to be offended anyway.

Our politicians are corrupt as shite, and our governor is a bumpkin who was only elected because he's from Tuscaloosa, has a UA degree, and could stand in front of a podium and say "Roll Tide" during the middle of a hot streak for Bama.

It blows my mind it took until 2016 for people to realize what scum Bentley is. I saw right through his shite a few months into his first term when he went on live TV for a press conference after the April 27, 2011 tornadoes and thanked "the volunteers and the BAPTISTS" for responding. WTF kind of shite is that?

I doubt any of that is the source of Alabama's issues, tbh.

(Not that I disagree with your points-they're accurate)

Louisiana would've been glad to have Airbus and M-B, but our education and infrastructure are at the bottom of everybody's lists.

Just on the face of it, it seems Alabama has a spending issue, given the revenue that is coming in.

but we have a lottery

jk, wasn't necessarily talking about just AL, but the practice of rolling over and spreading them just to attract a business to relocate to your community, it's always way too one sided and the locals rarely seem to benefit, goes for new pro stadiums as well

The lottery is a tax. It is just a voluntary one

They could probably solve this crisis just by putting a tax on incest.

I don't really GAS about the lottery, I will drive 15 mins to the state line and play it when it gets up around 700mil, but the thought of all the money that crosses the borders into GA, TN, MS, and FL on a daily basis does irritate me a little when I think about it.

I believe AL, Utah, Hawaii and Alaska are the only states without a lotto.

There is a quote from the governor in the article to that effect. If AL residents are going to cross state lines to purchase lotto tickets, you are just throwing away revenue.

It's time for Saban to play the state for a raise.

And even if the money is stolen by politicians, at least they will be our politicians.

I would have been able to go to college for free in most neighbor states believe. Oh well.

I'm mainly for it because if we can't pass the lotto, there's no way in hell pot gets legalized. So, now, maybe 10-20 years down the road, we can start thinking about pot.

This is the best part. AL voted a governor in in 98 that literally ran on the platform of bring a lottery, and then voted down the lotto once he was elected.

I was 14 at the time and it was apparent even then what a clusterfrick that was

so it's not really for education?

Those kids have plenty of money. They spend a small fortune on football. All the way down to junior high school teams.

Foley High has an indoor practice facility.

That being said, I think a lottery is a good idea. A casino between the Florida state line, Gulf Shores, and Mobile would also be smart.

The corrupt Christian Coalition/Moral Majority groups are the reason Alabama doesn't have a state lottery and why they're getting left in the dust.

So glad I got away from the politics of the State of Alabama. Embarrassing.

The Poarch band of Creek Indians are the reason there is no lottery. They have paid tens of millions to ensure that it hasn't reached a ballot in two decades.

just slap a little $5 tax on watching the gumps play in every way: in person, radio,tv. That will clear up the deficit in no time. A little $1 tax as well everytime they worship saban at church every sunday as well wouldn't hurt.
