So your argument now is that because this particular officer was afraid of the wallet that it was ok to blast the kid?

Nope. My argument is not that he was afraid of the wallet. My argument is that he did not believe it to be a wallet.

Do you believe that he knew it WAS in fact a wallet? If so, we have a different argument to attend to.

even after a minor car accident? Honestly, I've never seen anyone wait in their car after an accident. This guy was likely only doing so because it was wet and cold.

I'm obviously not a cop so I can't say for certain.

But in certain situations, cold/rain or just if it takes a long time for the cop to arrive, I'd argue logically that it's probably pretty normal for someone to wait in their car, then get out of their car upon the cop arriving.

Pretty ridiculous how long they let him sit there and bleed... especially after realizing they fricked up and shot a guy holding his wallet.

I mean police in the US shoot to kill, right? So why the urge to give aid?

Yea he was probably shocked that a cop showed up to the scene of a minor car accident with his weapon drawn.

If one truly mistakes the wallet for a gun, then yes. If one truly believes it is a gun, then wouldn't it be reasonable that they would respond with force?

What was the point of the cop saying, "let me see your hands" if he was just going to shoot any way?

Y'all are arguing logic with a poster who didn't read anything about the situation and made all of these assumptions:

-This was a traffic stop
-The driver jumped out of the car like a bat out of hell
-The cop deals with terrible people all day every day and is so stressed he can't see a wallet for a wallet or that the man had his hands up

Legally supposed to would be the correct phrasing. Maybe it's different at a local level?

The only car accident I've been involved in was some young kid hitting my back bumper. No damage to my truck and he busted up his plastic bumper. He was scared shitless so I told him to go on.

If I was involved in a minor accident that required the police to be there I'd probably get out, check everything, and then wait in my truck til the cops arrived.

Didn't realize that. In that case this idiot cop is very lucky.

I assume that most cops can accurately tell the difference between someone with their hands in the air holding a wallet, versus someone pulling out a gun and pointing it at them.

Failing to do that should result in the driver being able to defend himself against illegal force.

You're unsuccessfully moving goal posts for the sake of arguing. You are arguing it was logical (natural and sensible and characterized by or capable of clear, sound reasoning) to mistakenly identify a wallet as a gun, and shoot someone.

I have not once moved the goal posts.

I believe police should be dealt with in the most logical way possible. Do you think the most logical behavior is to exit the vehicle with a black object in your hand in the middle of the night in front of a potentially poorly-trained officer with a gun? If so then the circumstances disagree with your claim. Staying in the vehicle seems the most logical because there's a better chance he would not have been shot.

And when they pulled up, you wouldn't get out? Both drivers did in this case. The driver of the trailer, however, was so far forward that he wasn't in the line of fire nor the cop's first target.

The incident happened on March 6, 2014, however, the dashcam was kept secret until a little more than three years to the date after the shooting.

This is my biggest problem. All dashcam and bodycam video should be public domain. The only possible motivation for not revealing it is guilt.

i think everyone knows to stay in for a traffic stop but most accident scenes people are already standing outside of the vehicles. Usually talking on cell phones.

Nope. Courts ruled the shoot justified.

Careful out there.
