I assume that most cops can accurately tell the difference between someone with their hands in the air holding a wallet, versus someone pulling out a gun and pointing it at them.

Do you assume that's what happened in this instance? That the police officer was able to discern that it was a wallet? That's the relevant question.

Nope. Courts ruled the shoot justified.

Careful out there.

Do you know why?

Clearly he wasn't.

So, as the driver, now being shot at for doing absolutely nothing illegal -should he be able to defend himself against a potential life threatening force?

A cop who arrives to a wreck with cars pulled over shouldn't shoot within 2 seconds of a motorist exiting his vehicle with his hands up if he doesn't know what's in his hand. Period.

This is my biggest problem. All dashcam and bodycam video should be public domain. The only possible motivation for not revealing it is guilt.

Nope. My argument is not that he was afraid of the wallet. My argument is that he did not believe it to be a wallet.

Do you believe that he knew it WAS in fact a wallet? If so, we have a different argument to attend to.

You seriously think this shooting was justified?

Yea, that's what annoys me. Kinda like the no knock raids.

If that kid was somehow able to grab a gun he had concealed AFTER he was shot and shot the cop dead, he would be charged. That's BS. I know it didn't happen so being upset about something that didnt' happen is silly, I get it. It's just the idea that the cop can get away with that with no repercussions at all, that's pretty bad.

So, your idea is that cops should be able to shoot immediately even if they aren't being threatened based on the idea they can't identify an object?

Holy smokes.

Sorry, that's not an argument.

Do you know why the courts ruled the shooting justified?

In very extreme circumstances, yes.

This wasn't one of those times.

No, if I had it my way police officers would be much better trained to react in these instances.

I'm living in the real world though where people make poor decisions based off very little information.

Because how can you disprove a cop was "reasonably afraid for his life" if he says so?

He's not saying the shooting was justified.

Hes saying the shooting was logical.

The courts did. Do you know why?

Do you know why the arguments that people are making here wouldn't hold up in court? It's because they aren't logical. A judge has already decided that.
