That only works in a non-shared space. Conscientiousness and courtesy in public is apparently dead. People need to respect the fact that others are coming behind them.

I get it. I fly maybe once a year on avg. I look at it like an event. I do get frustrated when you roll into Houston or someplace after 9 or so and most everything is closed. Especially after dealing with weather delays that aren't even directly related to my itinerary. Weather in Denver will F up the west Coast flight plans.

No, you're right, manners, courtesy, etc. are frowned upon in this brave new world.

I made the mistake of not taking the window seat my last flight. The college age female beside was on the phone the whole flight and it seems purposely reflecting the sunlight into my eyes. I suppose I hugged and puffed long enough that she eventually quit. It could have just been bad luck I suppose but I don’t feel it was accidental.

It's such a pain in the arse that I'll give myself an extra day if I have to and just drive. See a lot cool stuff along the way that you miss flying over.

Exactly this. I'll drive unless it wastes a ton of time, which it usually doesn't.

Planning a getaway to Asheville. For my dates, the flight with layover is 5 hours 40 minutes. Let's be conservative and say I got to the airport 90 minutes before my flight to park, check luggage, and get through security. Then let's wait another hour after landing to deboard, get my luggage, and deal with the car rental idiots. I can make that drive (with stops) in 11 hours. The extra 3ish hours of travel time that driving takes is worth it to save money and avoid the people in an airport.

Once again is it that difficult to throw a pair of jeans on and a decent shirt? Maybe splash some water on your face so you don’t look completely crusty?

Bro I'm not wearing uncomfortable pants on a medium to long flight. I don't even like wearing jeans in general, much less on a flight.

Other points I agree with you.

NO ITS NOT NORMAL. Normal by today’s standards, which isn’t saying much, but not by historical standards its not.

I remember my first plane flight in the mid 70’s and air travel was not remotely like it is today. People not only knew how to put clothes on, but they also dressed with pride and class, even people who weren’t necessarily professional or white collar. You saw the same thing walking down third street on the weekend. Women dressed in dresses, men in suits and hats, and people cared what they looked like. Today, I mean, I don’t even know what to say about it. Women wearing leggings, showing everything they’ve got, advertising they are open for business, men wearing slippers and pants without belts. Trust me on this. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. It’s anything but for any other generation of Americans who would look at us like we were from outer space.

And again, you do to some extent. You're just pretending that you don't (for some reason).

Why do you say that?

I won’t even begrudge someone wearing workout clothes, joggers, etc.

What gets me are the straight up pajamas or especially people who wear shorts and flip flops. That’s gross.

I wear the same thing on a plane that I wear to work. I don’t wear anything ever that’s not comfortable

best thing I ever did was move to outdoors/hiking type clothing. It’s built for comfort and durability and looks great even after several days. Add a comfortable shirt to a pair of prana or fjallraven pants, hiking boots and a belt and I’m good to go no matter what I have to do or where I have to go

There was a pivot after 9/11 when the poors started flying and changed everything.

There was probably more importantly a pivot when shoes and belts and jackets all started coming off at security with laptops coming out and….

and wearing pajamas and flip flops was easier to shuffle through the terrible security situation with 900 people, bitter tsa, two benches and bags stacking up on the conveyers

I feel like folks these days are just matching the energy they’re getting from airlines. Unless you’re flying first class, you’re getting crammed in like sardines and there’s a solid likelihood you can get delayed for hours on a tarmac.

My wife was sitting next to Venus Williams in an airport in August. Venus left all of her trash sitting there when she left.

Sad how people have so little respect and self discipline. The street side litter in the south is another example. Sad that animals are cleaner than many humans

It’s all about finding the balance between comfort and not looking homeless when flying. You want to look like you belong in the lounge when you go in, but not be uncomfortable while doing it.

I have a very long flight in a couple days and will be wearing comfortable pants that have some give and a T-shirt.

And so what explains the people going to church on Sundays with beach and sleep attire?

Or maybe who can’t even manage to keep their pants up, or barely putting on clothing to go shopping?

I think we need to face the facts that this society hit the skids a while back when it comes to just knowing how to put clothes on, when to where what, much less how to actually act around other people in society. It all comes together nicely in an overall meltdown of society. That’s the society we now live in.

recently almost missed a connecting international flight due to weather. Plane landed in Houston, and the pilot and stewardesses asked everyone multiple times to remain seated so all of the people trying to make international connections (about 15 onboard) could deplane first.

Everyone did, and let us off the plane first. Made the connection with minutes to spare.

Faith in humanity restored.

Sometimes being late ain't your fault.

Agree. I feel uncomfortable if I wear shorts at the airport but will just keep a pair in my carry on to change if it gets hot. Other than that I’m wearing comfy shoes. It’s absurd what some people wear in the airport.

The lounge access has also motivated me to get to the airport earlier than I usually would. Something about getting free drinks and food and not being around the poors makes the airport experience less of a nuisance.
