The only redeeming quality this embarrassment of a post has is that I get a little spark of joy thinking about all of the people who know me irl who might stumble across my being accused of being insecure and lacking self confidence and imagining their reaction

Imagine having no sense of pride and dressing like a fricking slob all the time. Congrats.

This! You never know who you will run into. Imagine landing at your destination or be waiting at a gate and running into an old colleague, boss, or flame. There you are, years later in glorified pajamas with cow licks all in your hair. It’s lunchtime and you’re not even dressed appropriately. It’s called self respect and at a minimum just takes about an extra 20 minutes in the morning.

How much less could you care?

Stupid statement from a stupid person. Thanks for playing.

I understand the argument about cleanliness, etc. But does anyone else think its weird that certain styles of clothing are considered "nice" while others are not?

If you put on a pair of sweatpants and a long-sleeved t-shirt, you are wearing the same material as someone wearing slacks and a button-down shirt. But the latter is "dressed nice" and "looks nicer" than the former. Why? Just because of the styling on the clothes, and because society has told you someone looks "nicer" when they tuck in their shirt.

Same thing with a suit. Why is putting on a suit jacket and an entirely useless strip of cloth tied around your neck considered formally dressed, but not if you put on a bomber jacket and a scarf?

I wear a suit all the time, and I have a number of really nice, well-tailored ones. But I wear them because it is expected. I think its stupid.

How exactly is my cold sammy bothering anyone? It's a long flight to Tokyo, and you know the food isn't great on board.

You live in Austin. Have you looked around outside the airport?

That's lazy as hell, and untrue.

The 80s, 90s, 2000s, and the beginning of 2010s were generally fine in terms of passenger behavior and dress. The prevalence of social media encouraged cringey behavior, as well as the ability to report it. How long were the Southwest preboarding lines full of wheelchairs in 2002? Yeah, non existent.

In 2009, most airlines stopped requiring paperwork for emotional support animals. Once you have dogs fighting each other and shitting in the aisles, human women will start doing the same.

I would like to wear jeans just to not touch the seat with my skin any more than I have to. But the planes are usually too hot. Not sweating on an august flight from Louisiana to Florida. I’m definitely wearing shoes and socks. Not wearing flip flops and touching that nasty arse floor. Gross enough thinking about it staying on my socks.

But getting there early is essential for me. The people watching is the best of anywhere.

shite in the aisles, but if you close the window shade when you deplane during the summer, I'll overlook it. Having been based in Atlanta and Houston, there is a special place in hell for FAs that don't at least ask passengers to do this when they go to the gate.

Old enough to have sweat my arse off in an MD-80 sitting on the tarmac at ATL for 45 minutes during the summer, repeatedly and often. What's your point?

In hot locales, FAs should ask the PAX to lower the shades to reduce the temperature of the cabin for who is going to board the plane next. Is this rocket science?

For over 20 years, I was on a plane once a week going somewhere.

The Covid helped me retire and I don't miss the long lines, TFA, surly gate attendants, losing bags, snarky flight attendants or nasty airline seats at all.

I could live happily ever after if I never have to see another body scanner or wait for my bags.
