What do you think about Class A airspace being managed by AI? It could free up more controllers to handle approaches and towers

Our society is comprised of pussies who are perpetual victims.... The greatest generation stormed the beaches of Normandy to give us this, sad.

I would have to imagine that this is one of those fields that's absolutely ripe for being one of the first on the chopping block with AI looming, no?

Air traffic control is not for the faint of heart. If you can’t hack it, you will wash out quickly. Go stock grocery store shelves.

Current FAA ATC here. It’s more than 20%

I’d give it a try. You supervise it until it proves out.

College grads from ATC courses washed out at a high rate. It has been tried before and the results were terrible. Reading this it sounds like this guy barely qualified and barely passed in his class, got sent to a facility and made absolutely no attempt to get better. When you get into a facility you have to study facility specific things, study your procedures, rules, and regulations, ask questions, practice etc. The older guys don't have much patience and if you show you are not willing to put in the work and improve they'll wash you out.

It’s not hazing unless something gets broke, burned, eaten, or fricked

How many CCTs/FACs filter through y'alls ranks? It seems like next to none.

ATC is one of those fields like medicine where the wrong decision at the wrong time can be catastrophic.
They have to have the right kind of mind. They either have it or they don't. I guess like fighter pilots.

trainee Ryan Higgins deleted a plane’s data from the radar screen.

Read the article. He’s now a “stay at home dad.”
Enough said.

In an ARTCC environment there might be an instance where an aircraft leaves and reenters airspace and there is a duplicate flight plan because of this. Alternatively an aircraft might have pre-filed two different flight plans and one needs to be removed. He clearly removes the wrong one. I’ve heard stories of trainees at east coast centers removing the wrong flight plans for transatlantic flights before.
Here’s my take as a current FAA ATC working 6 day weeks. It’s not a job for the weak minded and those that need to be coddled. My facility has gotten trainees who come in knowing nothing they should going in. It’s very much a shite or get off the pot environment. Too much is at stake. Not saying that racism or sexism is acceptable because it’s not, but you need a thick skin for this job. You also need to learn from mistakes quickly rather than constantly repeat them.

Are you trying to reference FCT’s aka contract towers? We get a few occasionally.

Absolutely not. You can't be 75% accurate.
If they did this, that's when I'd start driving instead of flying.
