Have you looked around lately? We didn’t adapt and overcome anything

However, don't quite see the push for robots making your fast food orders quite yet. The technology to do this has existed for a long time, but still has not been worth the costs. I am sure we are getting closer, but a burger flipper robot could have been made a long time ago before the "AI push". It is all whether or not it makes sense from a cost perspective.

Miso Robotics is one of several companies running robots at several restaurants around the country. Not sure what they charge these days, but it was around $5000 to install the system and 3500/month a year or so ago. Given the dependability of the fast food hiring pool I'd think $3500 a month cost to be acceptable. They are primarily running fryers at the moment and each machine can handle 60 baskets fried per hour. Apparently White Castle has deployed them to 100 stores as of last year. A quick search mentions their Flippy 2 machines handling chicken tenders, wings, onions rings, mozzarella sticks, and french fries.

I'm sure it won't happen overnight, but it seems the costs are reasonable right now and the capabilities are improving.

Wal Mart's security dept. is all AI's; watching over cameras stationed above every self check out on the store, as well as over each aisle containing high priced goods, i.e. booze, steaks, etc. They have AI 's keeping track of each "theft", keeping a record of faces involved. When a "face" hits $1000 in thefts, a felony, that person is stopped in the store.

We've found the first clear failure of the tech then. Looting videos can be found over the place, and actual employees are basically discouraged from stopping theft in progress these days.

"What we see is that humans on average will upsell about 50% of the time," Carpenter said. "Valyant upsells about 200% on average."

Customers have a low threshold. They simply want an interaction that isn’t rude, and their order to be correct.

Corporations can’t find employees to accomplish those basic tasks, yet they are focused on upselling. A disgruntled voice mumbling through a blown out drive-thru speaker “You gonna wanna appa pie wit dat” doesn’t entice people to add to or complicate their order.

A.I. will happen fast because both sides will benefit. It’s a win for the consumer and the business. A lot of noise will be made about eliminating jobs, but those workers hate their jobs, and it’s obvious they don’t want to be there anyway.

Yea, that seems fine and probably even saving a decent amount of money and gaining more dependability.

You wouldn't compare that $3500 to an average 40 hour worker, because I assume the robot would work 7 days a week, all available working hours. Then factor in if there is PTO, benefits, etc. I'd imagine you're coming out ahead a good bit financially. Then as stated by you, the dependability piece would be great as well.

"A fast food restaurant machine" IS a form of AI
i think you and most everyone else have a different definition of AI. AI generally is accepted as a cognisant machine. Are basic reactive machines AI... maybe.. but they essentially just follow the logic of the code they are programed with. When someone says AI this day and age the mean cognisant/aware machines.

I'm just repeating what Musk is telling everyone as an example of A.I. development. He most definitely includes fast food machines as forms of A.I. The machines in that McDonalds in Vegas did everything involved in getting burgers & fries to the customer. The supervisor was there strictly to handle possible issues with customers. Mark Cuban has been saying the same thing, using what's been happening in Europe where fast food places have been almost completely automated as A.I development.

I wonder why Europe is so far ahead on this one and the US isn't?

But but but replacement of fast food workers by automation was decades away. This is a scare tactic by the right and big business and nothing more.

And Musk wants millions of more people to be born in the US.

Also...probably shouldn't got rid of abortions. What are you going to do with those extra 620k born every year?

Let's add in the fact that their is an assault on the education system by the GOP. Keep the masses uneducated and dependent on remedial jobs. An independent, educated person scares the shite out of the rich.
