They would be. It costs a lot of money to hire and maintain employees.

"A fast food restaurant machine" IS a form of AI. Just like our phones & lap tops. This is a mantra that Musk keeps preaching. I stopped at a McD's for a pit stop in Vegas several mths ago & there was only one human in the place. He said that he anticipated his position being replaced with AI as well within a few years. Wal Mart's security dept. is all AI's; watching over cameras stationed above every self check out on the store, as well as over each aisle containing high priced goods, i.e. booze, steaks, etc. They have AI 's keeping track of each "theft", keeping a record of faces involved. When a "face" hits $1000 in thefts, a felony, that person is stopped in the store. In the medical field, robotic surgeries are already being performed, AI's helping the human surgeon. This will obviously expand in short time. With Musk's boring company, all the work is /will be performed by AI's.

This is the bad thing, but it's also a necessary thing, because I don't think the major companies that will be left standing after all of this shakes out will want to give us any more than the bare minimum to ensure their existence unless the government, ie We The People, forces them to do more than the bare minimum.
The fear, to me, is we get into a situation where these companies are practically the government since they'll hold such a share of resources.
"You should be thankful we even fund your survival. Go frick yourself"
A neo-feudalist future aint the dream.

What do we do with all the people?
Give them free fast food. They won’t be around long after.

I guess all those people could learn to code but AI already does that too.

Anything that cuts down on waiting at Burger King. It took them 20 minutes to make my breakfast order

anyone relying solely on ChatGPT to write a non-trivial program and expecting it to compile and work without a human touching it is going to end up disappointed.

#FightForFifteen
They prefer no job, then.

Do you think chatgpt is the only AI agent out there?
The good shite isn't available freely to the public. There's a reason the tech giants are axing programmers.

I don't.

Okay, I'm looking forward to using it at work.

There was a time when setting pins back at bowling lanes was a physical labor job

How did we ever adapt and overcome it and many jobs becoming automated?

within 5 years
No.

"Within five to 10 years, I think the majority of positions within restaurants can be automated
Possibly.
The excitement of new technology usually leads to overly optimistic predictions of its growth and acceptance. In turn, this can end up creating the myth that the current technology is further along than it actually is. See: EVs.
There are already many self-order kiosks in many (maybe most) McDonald's but that's a FAR cry from every position being taken over. There's an entire interior rebuild needed to replace just food delivery, much less food preparation and property cleaning/maintenance. That's simply not going to happen across the breadth of the fast food industry in only five years (ten years may even be pushing it, depending on the returns from those initial setups).

Personally, I like human contact when I order food.

I'm only ok with this is prices go down accordingly.
Prices are based on what people are willing to pay for it.
