Yeah it has all gotten stale for me too. Feel more and more it’s some ridiculously bloated mechanism based on playing with a ball.

This. Does pro basketball EVER end? There is basically NO pro basketball offseason. Please give EVERYONE a BREAK! Both literally and figuratively.

College basketball is the only post-HS sport worth watching (especially March Madness). Now that my kids are in HS, I’ve really enjoyed watching HS sports again. I’ve seen more passion for the game in a 2A mid-week basketball game than I see on a college football field. When CFB became all about the NIL, it lost what made it great.

As you get older, if you've made good choices you'll naturally find your interest in people who don't know or care that you exist wanes. You no longer need to derive a sense of self from sports teams because you've successfully established who you are as a person to those around you. You can still have a significant interest in the events, but they become more like social events and a reason to gather with friends and acquaintances.

And, yes, the events themselves have become less about the sport and more about general entertainment. They are less tolerable.

I watch so few sports now I probably couldn't tell you. I cannot remember the last NFL game I watched beginning to end, including the Super Bowls. Outside of LSU games, I normally just put college football on the mutli view and glance every now and then.

Last time I regularly watched the MLB and NBA was before high school (late 80s)

The product is actually improving (more parity) and it shows with record tv viewers and attendance is actually up this year

With the Zion drama, the NBA for me has become totally unwatchable

The NFL is unwatchable. Have maybe watched 3-4 games from start to finish over the last 5 years

MLB has blackouts and is rarely on TV. So they make it impossible to watch your favorite team.

NHL is on espn+, but again your local teams are blacked out.

Pretty much only watch LSU Football/basketball. I'd like to watch the NHL and MLB, but I'm not giving in and paying extra for shitty Bally Sports/Fanduel TV.

Supposedly the MLB will be moving games to Amazon that won't have blackouts. Hope this is the case

I think the production value has gotten better in all of these sports, but I'm less interested.

I think it's a product of getting older.

I don't turn on Thursday/Sunday/Monday night football at all. I don't check scores. I check the highlights on youtube the next morning drinking coffee.

The games start too late for me. Even 7:00 pm on Saturday is pushing it. It's become a situation where I have to weigh waking up an hour or two later than normal to get 8 hours versus the entertainment value of the game. It better be a really good game.

For example, Auburn/Texas A&M went into 4OT last Saturday. I turned it off at the end of regulation. I wanted to watch, but not at the expense of sleep. Caught the highlights the next morning. My reaction was "thank god I didn't try to finish the game last night."

Priorities shift as you get older, especially when you take into account you're watching kids (Ryan Williams for Bama is literally 17 years old) and men you're older than in the NFL. I'm 32. Most of the guys still in the league are veterans. I enjoy the game of football, but I'd be lying if I haven't had to fight to keep the passion of watching the sport when there are so many other things that interest me out there.

At a certain point you have to realize you're watching dudes throw around a ball, understand that there is no value other than entertainment, and then be okay with spending some of the little time you have on this earth watching it. I recommend everyone do that, because it also leads to less frustration watching Florida skull drag your team.

I’ve watched about 25 minutes of college football that isn’t lsu. And in the lsu games never more than 2-3 quarters. It just isn’t entertaining to me anymore.

College football is all I have a passion for and the time to invest in.

All the others fell by the wayside as I got older. The transfer portal and NIL feel like I might give up on college football too if things don’t settle down

Still watch a lot of CFB games, but don’t pay attention to talk shows, game day, etc. I am starting to not pay attention to recruiting. I watch LSU basketball and baseball. A little bit of the NFL, no NBA and only the World Series in baseball.

I do enjoy high school football and basketball.

That’s why I like high school sports, kids are playing simply for the love of the game

Even high schools sports are being corrupted. Players transferring under shady circumstances, kids reclassifying in 8th grade. Even NIL for high schoolers.

Hayfield HS in Northern Virginia hired a new coach and brought a bunch of kids from his previous school in a different county. The team was in the region playoffs due to some court injunctions. They rescheduled the playoffs so they play 3 games in ten days. The. The school finally had to drop out when text messages were found that the transfer kids were classified as homeless so they could transfer.

quote:

In one exchange with an unidentified person on Jan. 11, Fritts clearly states that he intends to hire head football coach Darryl Overton for his team, stating, “My principal really wants Overton.” He is speaking about Hayfield Principal Darin Thompson. In the text messages, the unidentified person replies about Overton, “Will get kids from other schools to play with ya.” The person also states, “I’m not sure he will be able to get away with transfers at FCPS.” When informed that Overton’s methods might not withstand scrutiny within FCPS regulations, Fritts dismissively suggests exploiting a loophole, saying, “There would need to be some change, but if they are homeless, nothing can happen.” The person replies, “True, just better to be homeless.”

As you get older, you narrow what matters.

The only things I really care about watching is LSU football/baseball and the Saints.

The rest really doesn’t matter.

I’ll watch the Pelicans if I’m home and they’re on, but don’t care if I miss it. I won’t watch the rest of the NBA. If the Pels moved, I’d be 100% out on the NBA.

I haven’t watched a college basketball game in years (including LSU) and can’t stand it.

I’m done with MLB forever. They have been destroyed by wokeness. I wont even watch the ASG or World Series. frick MLB forever.

I’ll still watch non-Saints and non-LSU football games, but it’s no biggie if I miss them.

Same boat.
But, soccer is still legit.
Fun, drinking, a couple goals.
Good sport to get in to.
