What's your point? There's a 99.99% chance I wake up tomorrow. I'm going to plan for the likely outcome.

Isnt acting on the present only instinctual behavior that doesnt acknowledge these dimensions? Isnt that the problem.
I’m not so sure about that.
I think the instincts of delayed gratification and of sacrificing now for a better future are second order instincts for some and don’t take much thought, but for others, they just don’t get it.
Think about your conception of yourself over the time spans of your life. You go to school or learn skills to improve your prospects for the future.
You also compare your present self with the person you used to think you would be in the future, including your security and status. Knowing that you judge yourself based on your hopes for yourself in the future, you sacrifice the now by delaying immediate gratification so that you will be in a better place in the future.

It’s all a bunch of bullshite, none of this makes sense.
The genetics for humans and all animals for that matter are programmed to survive…which necessitates thinking ahead and into the future to improve chances of survival and offspring. Humans farming for excess, hogs burying bones, squirrels burying nuts, etc.

Time is a human construct but I think it works for me. It helps answer the question, "When?"

Learned this in black history classes (Black History, Modern African Nations) in college. In Sasa, the present (which includes the immediate future) serves the past. The future simple serves as a stopping point of thought because it doesn't exist. In the West, the present and the past serve the future.
I think I'm remembering that correctly. It was 20+ years ago.

I know this thread has swung away from the original topic, but consider why Haiti is a shithole, and the Dominican Republic is somehow not run by gangs of people burning people in the streets, etc.
A South African pointed out to me years ago that much of the total disregard for human life, the future, etc., is due to so many black Africans practicing animism, which focuses on ancestors, voodoo like stuff, etc. Animism is a thing in Haiti, it's not in DR. Animism is a big thing to a lot of black Africans, it fits nicely with her explanation of the perception of time.
And it also reminds me of how that shite about the passage of time came out of Kamala's mouth. It makes slightly more sense now.

Your timing is off.
It actually isn't, according to the Pew Research data.

Were there any major changes to our entitlements around the 1960s that perhaps encouraged a segment of the population to have more children by more men that you can think of?
You morons blame Great Society for everything.

Anything where the person who conceived and pushed it said "I'll have "them" voting democrat for the next 200 years?" (I said them because the actual quote would get me banned).
You realize he likely never said this? The only attribution is from a Ronald Kessler book I believe. In the several hours of documented audio evidence we have from LBJ, no such quote appears.
What if you just want a lazy and boring, if oft-repeated, excuse for the drop in marriages rates rather than something more fundamental with American society at large? Or you can go on believing your very convenient quotes.

It’s like those signs at bars that say free beer tomorrow. You keep coming back and it just keeps saying free beer tomorrow. There is no tomorrow. Oldmanbeasley wants his free beer today.

I guess this explains why so many African people around the world seem to not consider the consequences of their actions or cause and effect. They don’t think long-term. Just instant gratification
