BR Business Report

quote:

Although the parishwide smoking ban has contributed to notable declines in casino revenues, indoor air pollution levels in Baton Rouge bars and casinos have fallen 98.8% since the ordinance went into effect on June 1, according to a recent study.

No shite?

The study concluded air pollution levels dropped 98.8%, which is greater than the decline seen in New Orleans—96%—after passing its smoking ban, smoke-free coalition spokesperson Raegan Carter says in a statement. “We were not surprised by the results but were certainly excited to have confirmation that Baton Rouge area bars and casinos are no longer exposing workers or patrons to hazardous levels of air pollution resulting from indoor smoking,” Carter adds.

Not everyone, however, is happy about the new ordinance. Casino industry officials say the smoking ban has played a part in declining revenues at Baton Rouge facilities. Business Report took a look at this issue, as well as other reasons behind the downturn in casino winnings and attendance in an October cover story.

Then don't go to private establishments where businesses allow it.

This is like saying that you should be ok with the fat person spilling over into your seat on an airplane. You paid for it just like the fat guy did. But by all means, let’s have non-fat people just stay away from planes too.

I find it funny when people get so up in arms around banning smoking in bars and restaurants. It's been banned in supermarkets, offices, grocery stores, airplanes and airports, theaters, barbershops, etc etc etc for years, and it's simply accepted that that's the case. But bars, HOLY shite HOW DARE YOU!!!

You’re not going to get cancer from occasionally attending a bar or casino where there is 2nd hand smoke

Because a lot more people enjoy smoking while drinking than do that smoke regularly.

They should have started cleaning up the pollution that's called North Baton Rouge and worked their way down to the smokers

There was nothing worse than going out to eat and getting sat to close to the smoking section..

Well, besides maybe finding a finger in your food....

if you only patronized airlines that required fat fricks to buy 2 seats then the ones that let fat fricks ruin your experience would be forced to adapt.

You have no proof of this, and at the very least you go home smelling like hot garbage and that enough for me to ban it. Even smokers that lay off for a while say it’s disgusting and makes you smell awful.

No one is telling you you can't smoke when you're out. You just need to walk outside the establishment 15 ft away. Thank you for your sacrifice.

You are a poontang. Where I live, you can't smoke even on the main drag of the city.

But what about car exhaust? Every time a big rig rolls past do you get widdle biddy sinus infection?

I'm cool with smoking laws in bars, restaurants, what have you, but people like you are drama queens
