Let’s say I owned a small bar where I was the only employee. Should I be allowed to allow smoking in my own establishment?

No, because it's a safety issue for your patrons as well.

ETA: just like you're required to adhere to other safety regulations for the good of your patrons. You can't leave slip hazards on the ground, you can't leave chemicals out in the open, etc etc

Me too. I had actually stopped going to certain bars and the casinos due to all the cigarette smoke. It gives me a horrible headache when I have to breath it for even just a short time.

So only smokers have the right to personal liberties?

So you have to go to an establishment that allows smoking?

You can't leave or patron a place that doesn't allow smoking?

I suppose you think the world revolves around you as well.

You sound like a huge pussy

This thread is frightening.

If Jim’s bar allows smoking and Bob’s doesn’t, pick the one that suits you.

If you don’t want to work in a smoky environment, don’t apply for a job where smoking is allowed.

It seems so simple. Not a smoker for the record.

How am I going to relive my college days when I can't smoke when I drink?

That's not the way it works. All employees have the right to a safe work environment regardless if Jim owns the business or if Bob does.

This is a standard across all industries.

Smoking is a legal activity. I own my business. If I want to allow a legal activity on my premises, who the hell is the government to tell me otherwise? If you don't like it, don't come to my business and instead frequent one where smoking is banned voluntarily by the business owner. That's called the free market.
Exactly this. Weren’t like 90% of bars in BR smoke free anyway? What the frick happened to allowing market forces to determine what businesses allow what legal activities within their private establishments? I’m a non-smoker but I hate this statist bullshite.

So basically the government should not set workplace safety regulations at all? Jim-Bob shouldn't have to make his employees wear FRC's in the plant if he doesn't want to?

I get the "liberty or death" guys, but they conveniently dismiss all the other workplace rules and regs. This one just gets their undies in a bunch for some reason...where if THIS passes, THEN all liberties for everyone are gone.

Guys, you can still smoke at bars. You're just stepping 10 ft away to do it. Those 20 steps will get you some sorely needed exercise. Everyone wins, right?

You’re not going to get cancer from occasionally attending a bar or casino where there is 2nd hand smoke

I like not smelling like a wet ashtray full of old butts when I go home at night if I stop in and have a couple beers and toss some darts or shoot a few games of pool.

Should've gone to a different bar if it was that big of a problem. Or, you could've demanded the bar owner spend tens of thousands of dollars on air scrubbers.

People get pissed when you tell business owners what to do, and they also get pissed when you walk in somewhere and tell them, "You've got to leave, because I want to be here"

I can't recall of any bar or pool hall in the N.O. area that was smoke free before they passed the ordinance to ban smoking and vaping in bars=====and I've been in a lot of bars over the years.
