quote:Well, now you have added to the standard from what I commented on.
The standard for reporting is that you witness something or verify it via multiple sources prior to reporting it.
quote:I mean, it's a piece on the experience of nurses on the "front lines" of this "war." I'm not particularly fond of adopting the war time terminology, but it appears generally accepted with respect to this pandemic. The president has even labeled himself a war time president.
I keep forgetting that journalism is dead and this is tabloid level shite.
I'm not here to defend the article, but I'm not seeing what is so triggering about it either.

so they ODd the guy with morphine and killed him?
I would hope someone would do that for me if I were in that situation.

I read the paper everyday. That's just me.

With 24/7 cable and social media and an overall feminization of The West we have transitioned from a stoic culture to a therapeutic culture . From the Kennedy funeral of quiet dignity to the McCain 2 weeks of maudlin displays and emoting. It’s just an accurate demonstration of what our culture has become, for better or worse. We emote , therefore we are.

Nurses watch people die all of the time. What makes this any different?
I’m told it’s different in that there are now regular floor nurses who are rotating to covid units who don’t ordinarily have patients die. Further, these patients are often dying alone, without family, nurses or doctors able to go in the room, to help limit transmission of the virus and to conserve PPE. It’s probably a little more stressful than you’re imagining.

Ok, so what if the journalist did? Sounds like there were family members on the video call, as well as the nurse in the room. If the journalist spoke to these people, doesn't that meet "the standard"?
I'm trying to understand what you are upset about. I don't get it.

Everyone who writes these crappy articles for the advocate looks like they're 20 and fresh out of LSU. I guess they had to hire young graduates on the cheap and get rid of all the old expensive writers. Journalism school is such a joke these days. Everyone comes out writing the same emotional bull crap.

This morning they buried the article about the nursing home and veterans home situation. A few weeks ago the Gov/LDH stated that CDC instructed them to stop naming the nursing homes that had clusters. CDC denied staying so yesterday. Also, the state run veterans home/LDV is not responding to media requests for updates of the number of infected/dead.
It is of note that the nursing home lobby is one of the biggest in the state and a huge supporter of JBE and his expansion of public health. Advocate ran a front page expose’ a month ago about a guy Jeff Landry’s brother did business with who was arrested in Texas regarding an unrelated matter for illegal labor trafficking. It has become a true rag of a paper and clearly has an agenda, as opposed to reporting facts about real issues.
