If you had an older sibling there in the early to mid 80s, ask them…or him.

I knew Fr. Lemoine at CHS. He had a small teaching role, but was primarily there for religious services, sacramental prep, and retreats.

I never got any creepy vibes from him, but I wasn’t overly impressed with him. Just a mediocre diocesan priest.

I was surprised by the sex abuse charges against him, but I never heard of anyone from Catholic High who was molested by him. Just the Pierre Part allegations.

Is there a reason the Sadvocate is dredging up this old story?

a judge just unsealed the records as part of a lawsuit.

I’ll be honest this dredged up a bunch of memories for me. Fr Dan was much closer to some of my friends than me but we did keep in touch, while I was at college. And all during that time, and before that, he was molesting children. That’s difficult to reconcile and when I first heard of the allegations against him it was a large portion of why I’m no longer a practicing catholic

if you’ve never been betrayed like that it’s hard to understand. I considered him a friend and coupled with the childhood awe we all had for the priesthood it just doesn’t make any sense

I was at catholic during his time there. He was my religion teacher. He did try to fraternize with us more than most teachers but there was never any funny stuff (unless I’m suppressing!).

My friend, I am in total agreement that this story was jarring. I really was surprised about Fr. Dan.

My point about the resurrection of this story is that this news was known and publicized several times over the past 30+ years. I’m not saying that the release of the records isn’t newsworthy, it’s just that it seems that the only time the media makes a big deal about 30+ year old and previously reported sex abuse cases is when it involves someone affiliated with the Catholic Church or a politician or celebrity (sometimes, depending on their political party).

I’m also so sorry to hear that your faith was shaken by the evil deeds of this priest, and other priests. I urge you to reconsider this and return to Christ. Your faith journey is the only thing that will give lasting meaning (living waters). Remember that even one of Jesus’ own apostles was seduced by evil.

it may have been out there earlier but his admission that he had indeed molested children and teens was news to me. The allegations were made public decades ago but I was not aware he had made a confession of guilt to the church. That makes me even angrier than I was before. So Brother Francis KNEW what he had done and did nothing about it that mattered…unforgivable

I have an excellent relationship with our creator despite that…what I have decided is that I do not need flawed and evil human institutions getting between me and my faith. Perhaps Fr Dan did me a favor in that regard

here’s what really struck a nerve…Brother Francis (and other faculty and staff) knew that we were spending time outside of school with Fr Dan. It’s not like my friends and I were delinquents, we were the smart kids. Mike B was the valedictorian. Myself and Chuck G were salutatorians. Mike A and Matt B and Jon G and Mike D and others were the top of the class, accomplished students and faithful Catholics. It was not any kind of secret

They knew, and they did nothing

Seems more focused on the fact that CHS did remove him when they saw signs of him being a weird dude, which sadly does not often happen in these instances.

I was there 91-95 and don't remember him teaching any classes. My freshman religion teacher was a really tall guy that played basketball at Auburn. Can't remember his name.

Teenagers active in the church. I did the same with Life Teen and our pastor at school/our parish growing up.

I'm surprised you find it weird.
