Yep and be prepared to call the cops, because it sounds like the bike is probably gone.

Tell them you have someone lined up to work on it but you have to have it by this Friday. Be extremely open to meeting anytime and picking it up in any condition. The thing might be half torn down and he's embarrassed to have you come pick it up. Aggressively call and get them to meet you to get the bike. Either way any sort of "friendship" is now gone so get the damned bike back or get closure that he sold it for the all-mighty meth.

As some have said get a cop. I would send a text now and tell him you are getting them involved by this afternoon if he does not agree to meet you by then. No excuses no more wasted time. I'm a believer that patience is a virtue but I'm also a believer that when mine wears thin I get pissed.

If he is a friend you trust tell him you need to complete bike for closure. You appreciate what he is going through and want to pay for work to date, but need to get it back

Potential blame others who stand to inherit if any. Everybody knows executor and inheritance shite gets messy

I'm not sure that it being your deceased bro's bike or the guy being a friend of the family has anything to do with it? What's the extent of the repair?

As said, treat it like it was your daily driver. Get the bike back asap or call the police. You know it's not going to end well at this point, better just to end it asap and move on.

No but he says he dealing with an illness in her family as well as his right now.

Then tell him that out of your concern for his "dealings" you'll come get the bike and relieve some of the pressure he is dealing with. If he refuses then something is up. Might have to get the law involved.

My brother was killed while riding this bike.
The friend used to work with our dad and used to ride with my brother. That's why it's relevant to this ordeal.

Sorry to hear, I was worried it was something like that.

Is it not possible the guy is having a hard time working on the bike due to the emotions of it being a friend's who died on it?

There's no way the repairs are more than 2-3 weeks worth of time. I'd just tell him to keep the 1/3 and you need the bike back by Tuesday, or you are calling the police and reporting it stolen.

Show up at his house with a trailer and a ball pien hammer and pick up the bike. 1 1/2 years is long enough.

Please keep this thread updated on whether you get the bike back, or not. Hoping you do.

Yeah I would bet anyone that he sold the bike after 1 week. Sounds like trash.
