I brought my deceased brother's motorcycle to a "friend" of the family almost a year and a half ago after he agreed to repair it based off of pictures I sent to him.
Since then this person has been extremely hard to get a hold of concerning the progress on the bike.
While some work has been done, due to flooding and alleged family illnesses, the motorcycle has not been completely repaired.

I have not had any communication with this person since December.

Last Wednesday I called and then text him to let him know that I think it would be best if I come pick the bike up.
Later that day he text back saying he was dealing with family issues and would get back with me this past weekend.
Once again I have not heard from him.

What should my next move be?

go by and pick up the bike....he is obviously not interested in completing the job. be prepared to pay him for what work he has done, though.

I've already given him a 1/3 of the price he quoted for repairing it.

It's locked in his shop. He doesn't work out of that shop full time any longer and just does repairs on the side.

He definitely does not have the bike anymore. Bike was sold for drugs.

I would be at his house the next time it was convenient for me. If the bike is there then take it.

Sorry for the loss of your brother.

The "friend" has shown his true colors.

Good luck on picking up the bike.

well, that is a whole different story. depends on how much money we are talking about as to how I would proceed.

I would say that you should at least send him a certified letter saying, in effect, that the project is taking entirely too long and that it is time to either finish the work or refund the remainder of the cash. this is basically the first step to either small claims court or a real lawsuit.

hopefully (but not likely), you have something spelling out exactly what he was going to do, how much it was going to cost, and how much you have already paid.

Doesn't sound like he wants to, or isn't able to, give the bike back to you.
I would just hound the hell out of him until it is returned.

I'm a little concerned for you that he may not have the bike. Seems sketchy.

Have someone else call him about having their bike repaired. Set up and appointment to meet at his shop. You show up instead.

He can easily ignore texts and phone calls. He cannot ignore you in his face. Be prepared for the bike to not be there.

I feel the same way.
Especially since he deleted me as a friend on fb during all of this and keeps coming up with excuses why I can't come to his shop.

Tell him either he produces your bike or you will report it stolen. Settle the repair bill in small claims court.
