When I was a teenager, I was going to one of the events at Rupp Arena with my brother. We were headed to Lexington and saw a van broken down on the side of the road with a bunch of men standing around.
Stopped to help, and it was some of the wrestlers, Leaping Lanny, Randy Savage (they were real life brothers) and a few others. They were on the way to the show.
We helped them with their tire change and they got us in the VIP area. CSB I know.

I've been a wrestling fan for years and the thing that irks me the most are the "fans" that criticize every detail about the storylines. They complain when Wrestler A becomes champ again and again and they want someone else as champ. And then when some else becomes champ, they complain that wrestler isn't ready and Wrestler A should be champ. The fans can be the worst part of wrestling.

Adults that judge the leisure activities of others just grind my gears. So what if someone else enjoys wresting? Does this effect your life in anyway?

I used to be a huge fan as a kid, and then my high school and college years (1996-2006) had some of the best years in pro wrestling ever, and it became a pop culture phenomenon, more so than it had been.
I lost connection with the product and stopped watching for a while. Then I started up again but the product being geared toward kids is a turnoff, and now I am back to casually following it or reading about the latest story lines when I remember.

Pro Wrestling has been a thing since the 1930s. It is generational and people from literally all walks of life do enjoy it. Sure there are some geeks that make it their entire life, but the majority see it as a fictional show that pits good vs evil, with story lines mixed in to sell a product.

I had this EXACT conversation with my son, when he was 17. Now from a teenager you can sort of understand, but a grown arse adult judging people based on what they like to do in their leisure time................

I haven't watched in many years, but I really respect those heels that are able to get the crowds so worked up. When I was a kid, I hated Bobby the Brain. Now I look back on it and see what a great performer that dude and some of those other "bad guys" were.

Lots of people say that pro wrestling is stupid because it's fake. I would say fake is a bad word to use. It's more choreographed and predetermined than fake. While some of the moves are fake, like the punches and kicks, others are very real, like jumping of the top of a cage through a table. The guys are athletes, and a lot of the stunts they do are dangerous and impressive. Not to mention a lot of it is just hilarious to watch.

I loved wrestling as a kid in the Hulk Hogan / Andre the Giant and Dr. Death / Hacksaw Jim Duggan era. Somewhere by the time I got to my early teens, I grew out of it.
While I haven't watched much in the past 25 years, I've noticed that the soap opera story lines have become even more white trash and over the top. I was telling my 8 year old son how much I liked wrestling when I was his age and we watched about 20 minutes of the Monday night show. I explained how it was 'scripted' but tried not to say anything negative and added that they are in great shape and go through a lot of pain. Finally, he said to me 'Dad, this is kind of stupid, isn't it?'

It's not really stupid because it's fake. That's a weak criticism. But it is kind of stupid because it's stupid. A bunch of scantily clad guys on steroids running around play fighting acting out cheesy, shallow story lines? That's kind of lame. Jmo. To each their own. I definitely have a bunch of interests that a lot of people would think are lame too.
