I’ll check with C.E. Adler and get back to you. Losing those brands don’t kill a store.

I’m not a watch guy. Is Rolex still as vaunted as a brand, or have other manufacturers matched them? Seems to me luxury watches are all beautiful time pieces and Rolex doesn’t have that cornered anymore.
The question you ask is actually quite complicated and requires a lot of perspective to fully understand but I will try in a relatively short post.
First, you ask is Rolex is still vaunted as a brand. The answer is an unequivocal yes, it is by far the most valuable brand in watches and that is going nowhere in the mid-term at least, probably as long as mechanical watches remain desired.
Second, Rolex is and has always been a mid-tier brand. They haven't tried to compete with manufacturers like Patek, Vacheron, AP, and Lange they are simply in a different league. Rolex has built a reputation of being one of the best sports watch manufacturers. They have spent billions on becoming highly vertically integrated and outside Seiko (which functioned in a different type of economy) they are the most vertically integrated.
Rolex is still very much in demand and many of the stainless sports models (and a few in precious metal as well) are damn near impossible to buy new from an AD without having a good relationship with the dealer. This demand has weakened in the last couple of years but only because the whole watch market has weakened post COVID boom. They still have the same relative market share.
There is a ton more nuance that can be discussed but they are still a benchmark in watches not unlike the Porsche 911 is with sports cars.

I imagine every family meal around their table at the holidays is exactly like those commercials with everyone constantly finishing each others sentences

I’d imagine marriage business is slow and young people are in fewer relationships every year. Bad business model long term

Now who will be the official sponsor of the Rex-Comus Ball next year? They design all the Carnival pins.

Rolex does the marketing and reliability very well. It’s also got a diverse catalog that serves baws and world leaders which helps grab a wider audience.

We went last weekend to the Metairie store to look at ladies Cartier....all they had were G Shock watches.
It was very odd. Now I understand it.
I am very sad for Canal Street.

Sad to see a family business go under but jewelry is fricking as dumb as young people buying DoorDash imo. Never understood the appeal.
Ooh a shiny rock that most people can’t tell the difference between some shot I could buy at a dollar store. Weird.

New Orleans used to be the Jewelry Capital of the south. AB Griswald, Krower & Sons, Hauseman’s Jewelers, Sterbcow Brothers, AM Hill, IC Levi, Zimmerman’s, Fishels Jewlry, Schooler Jewelry, Canal Jewelers, etc were all on Canal Street. Only ones still operating are Boudreaux’s, Valobra, MS Rau, Kiel’s, Jack Sutton, and Fischers are all that’s left.

Vape store or sneaker store...Best case ruby slipper (which are not very good)
Once again, I am very sad. I walk by it at least 4-5 times a week. It will kill that block.
