Addressing a friend's drug problem.

Has anyone had to confront this? I have a good friend who to my knowledge has had zero issues with substances of any kind aside from some bud limes here and there.
Very successful, probably making north of half million per year.
Today I was deeply disturbed to learn that he had taken his family to the mountains in Colorado and has been abusing Marijuana for at least most of the day today.
I care about him too much to not intervene but searching for the right words.

How many marijuanas did he take in a day? I've heard it's just like drinking beer and he would probably be okay if he paced himself with the marijuanas.
