BTW,he doesn't even have a car yet. He is considered a secondary driver.
Most likely the problem.
Go buy him a beater and make him secondary on it and keep him off the other vehicles, he just can not drive him which is probably a bonus.

You can save money by making sure the kid is listed as the primary driver on your cheapest vehicle.
My 16-year-old has her own car, but she's listed on my crappy Jeep Patriot, which is worth next to nothing after 185K miles. She is still insured on any of our three vehicles, but Jake from State Farm said this was an easy way to save a few dollars.
If you're an OT baller and all of your vehicles are worth $30K or more, then shut the hell up and pay the man.

You would think in 2017 insurance companies wouldn't be allowed to continue this sexist behavior and openly discriminate against males.

I switched to Geico when our son started driving. My previous company did pretty much the same to me as yours did to you. Geico gave me better coverage and only added about $50 per month for the teenager and his car. I couldn't believe it.
Be cautious, Geico is generally cheap until you have a claim or two then they will turn on you quickly and you will be in a jam with them price-wise or trying to find a new carrier at that point due to the spike in the Geico coverage.

Dang, back in the day my dad just listed me as a second driver on his car. Was $18/month extra. I did have good grades and took driver's ed, usually that helps.

I have a company car and my wife car is paid for. I bought my 16 year daughter a 2002 Honda beater (titled in my name) The daughter got her real license Friday, should I tell GEICO (my provider) she is the secondary on "my car" or just tell them it is her car? I have to do this soon as they knew she was a permit only driver 4 months so she could practice driving.

1) Are you adding your teenager to ALL vehicles on your policy or just their own vehicle?
2) Your payments every month should remain the same if you make your kid pay for their own insurance like a normal teenager.

A $650 increase is complete bs. Go somewhere else like Geico. It'll probably cost you about $175-250 per month more if he has a clean or no driving record

My son is 18 and had two wrecks his fault. I pay $585 a month. $900 is rediciculous. Tried dropping him but apparently the law says I have to keep him on until 19. Two more months and then he gone! Just the wife and i would be $170 a month.

$270 for 2 adults sounds high to me, to start. We are paying $160 for a '16 4Runner and a '10 Odyssey.
Who are you with?

Insurance is the reason I will never pay a note on a car. I avoid full coverage like the plague.
It's the liability brah that costs so much.

I am on Geico website now. Looks like these rates will be much better.

You shouldn't have "added" him as secondary driver. He's automatically covered so long as he was never rejected as a driver

Gieco saved me a bunch when State Farm raised my rates when my son turned 16. State Farm just doesn't want families with teenage drivers.

Pay for a car outright with cash and get liability only. I have 4 sons ranging in age from 21 to 16 and that is the only way we can afford it. We still pay about $645 a month but my wife and I have comprehensive for $215 of that a month. The other $430 is my son's insurance (which I would much rather pay towards the 2009 Porsche Turbo I want but whatcha gonna do).

Try moving to a different state. My car insurance went from 220/month to 150/month when I moved to Georgia and I even increased my policy. (State Farm)

True. Buying an acre in MS w a mobile home as residence could be more cost effective and you are invested in a hurricane evacuation destination

Yeah I don't remember crazy prices when I was 16, but I did drive a sweet 1985 Toyota Cressida

There's no way I believe that the average American family is paying current family health insurance rates and $750+/month for car insurance and not drowning immediately.
Something seems terribly off about that number. And it's complete bullshite if it is the average price because you legally can't drive a car without paying for car insurance.
My wife and I pay $145/month for our car insurance. I wouldn't even have room for a $950/month payment when my kid is 17.
