Accused murderer couldn't afford bond supervision, so new B.R judge removes restrictions

BATON ROUGE - A brand new judge, who prided herself on giving suspects second chances in her online campaign videos last year, unleashed an accused murderer without any monitoring requirements in July, the WBRZ Investigative Unit uncovered.
It wasn't a problem for Judge Eboni Johnson Rose until suspect Billy Pettice held a gun to his girlfriend's head and tried to choke her on Nov. 11, 2021. Investigators said he took things a step further on Saturday and shot out the windows of her car as two children were inside.
Pettice is back in custody and is now being held without bond.

The WBRZ Investigative Unit began looking into the situation after learning Pettice had somehow managed to avoid any sort of supervision or ankle monitoring before Saturday's arrest while awaiting a murder trial.
Court records show Pettice posted a $175,000 bond after he was charged in the murder of his then-girlfriend Dedawn Bush in 2018.

WBRZ Chief Investigator Chris Nakamoto reached out to Judge Rose about what she did but did not get a return phone call.

In Pettice's case, his rap sheet was a good indicator of the trouble he's caused in the past. Multiple arrests dating back more than a decade for murder, armed robbery, burglary and theft.

This is why you can't find ammo these days. WTF is wrong with these people? Lock these assholes up - that's why we have jails.

Oh no, we’ve emptied those out what with Covid and being woke and all. Jails are only for white supremacists and white people who think the wrong way. Like the young man who thought self defense was a good reason to shoot someone. We kept him in a jail for months. But that stupid jury made the wrong verdict and let him out. Stupid white people.

One of the big problems is that many judges are lazy and don't study, or even do minimal reading on their cases. Many judges sought their positions because they considered it a cushy job where they wouldn't have to do much work.

He bonded out on 09/16/2020 on Judge Jackson's $175k bond (for those of you who drifted here from the other thread, this is yet another example). Judge Johnson-Rose took the bench in December 2020. He was relieved of his bond conditions of an ankle monitor and a bond supervisor in July 2021.
Now, I know frick all about the case, so I'm not going to make any judgment on whether that was a good idea or not, but I will say that someone being on an ankle monitor for nine months and having it then removed if there aren't any issues is pretty standard fare.
Anyway, WBRZ is so fricking dumb, because they know everything I just said. But they know that being the mouthpiece of the DA's office drives clicks, so they keep doing it.
ETA: Also, what exactly would "bond supervision" have accomplished in keeping this guy from choking out his girlfriend and shooting out her windows?

These judges and DAs that think they’re going to reform the criminal justice system by letting everyone go free are going to get so many innocentpeople killed. It’s ashame really.

You should be able to sue judges who knowingly release violent criminals back in to society to cause more havoc

The problem is that our laws aren’t strict enough for violent crime. There needs to be reform for nonviolent crimes and an increase in severity for violent crimes.
There is no room for violent crime in our society and this guy had a history of violent crime a mile long.

He was already out on a $175k bond and had been for over a year when he was re-arrested. Him being taken off of an ankle monitor four months ago is silly clickbait.
Now, if we want to talk about how the monetary bond system we currently have is a fricking train wreck, I'm happy to do so on a second thread

20k in cash and accused murders can walk amongst others in a city that is near the top in murders per capita. This is what we should really be discussing.
I have long held the theory that 19th Judicial District Court judges and the Sheriff of East Baton Rouge had an unspoken agreement of understanding that produced insanely low bonds in this parish for all crimes, even the most violent.
The EBR Parish prison holds roughly 1600 inmates at capacity. The Sheriff is constitutionally mandated to house the arrestees. If the prison exceeds capacity, the Sheriff must pay to house inmates in other rural parishes at a cost. As a result, the judges have been given the memo to keep bonds low to allow some of the arrestees out.
It never fails when a new judge or commissioner comes into office. Right out of the gate they issue big league bond amounts for big league crimes, similar to those seen in neighboring parishes. But like clock work, within months the amounts get down to the EBR standard. We always laugh and assume the judge finally got the memo.
We can fix this. Build a parish prison big enough to hold the massive amount of violent criminals for 2021 population and violent crime levels.

I always thought the old Woman’s Hospital should have been turned into a jail
