You must have not noticed. Most times they are driving slow in the left lane.

Cheaper Car insurance.
Not as strict tint laws
No silly brake tags.
No cops writing traffic tickets so no reason to ever change.

Cheaper insurance, a lot of oilfield companies and contractors register their vehicles in Texas to save money.

Not new at all. There’s also a ton of Louisiana plates in Texas. It’s almost as if the two states border one another

Easy. There are a little less than 3 million Mississippians compared to about 31 million Texans. Odds are good you’re going to see more of one than the other. You definitely see more Arkansas plates the further north you go. But same deal…very small population compared to TX.

We moved back and the cost to replace my wife’s car that was purchased here was insane. I should have just left it with Texas plates.

It was partly my fault but since we forgot to notify the Louisiana OMV we moved away in 2018, it cost us over $800 to replate her shitty 2015 sedan.

I had all the documentation to prove we registered the car in Texas and never let insurance lapse but they didn’t give a damn.

So my advice is to leave it registered in Texas if you are ever in the same situation.

I live in LC, so obviously TX plates are quite abundant. What I don’t get is the seemingly recent abundance of TN plates. Like why the hell are there suddenly and seemingly random amounts of them? They are all on cars, I can’t recall seeing one on a truck.

I know in LA rental cars will have a “Commercial” designation, so maybe some rental agency in TN sold out? I dunno how their system works but there is no discernible designation on the plates.

Dude are you kidding? Texas has 31 million people. 7.8 million of which reside in the Houston metro which is 4 hours west of BR.

Arkansas and Mississippi both have around 3 million. You’ll probably see a decent amount of Arkansas tags around Shreveport and some Mississippi around Monroe.

Texas and Louisiana are connected at the hip economically as well due to the O&G and petrochemical industries from Houston along I-10 to BR.

There were more on the road today than normal. Driving all over the place like they were lost.

Probably July 4th traffic

One might initially assume so but there is a big reason: denial of coverage

Let’s say you want to be cute and register your car in Texas for cheaper insurance but you actually live and work in Louisiana. You used your parents address in Texas.

Now you get in a wreck in Louisiana. The insurance company WILL investigate why you got in a wreck in Louisiana with Texas plates and insurance. They easily find out you have a residence and work in Louisiana. You lied on your insurance application.

BAM! Denial of coverage

Congratulations. You paid for insurance, while cheaper, that is useless.

You played yourself.
