I'm less worried about the helmets and more about where they are supposed to be driving. Here in DC they use the streets, bike lanes, and sidewalks, sometimes interchangeably.
They're honestly a pretty fun way to get around, but they popped up so quickly there aren't really any laws or guidelines that I'm aware of of where they're supposed to go.

My nephew was riding one in Tulsa a few weeks ago doing stupid shite stunts with them, he had been on one I think he said 29 seconds before he did a stupid trick and broke his collarbone, it was all I could do not to die laughing when my Brother In Law was relating the story.

It’s like this in every city. AUSTIN is out of control. Not sure what the rules are but apparently these company’s found a loophole because the city can’t do anything about it. There have been a number of deaths on these things.

There have been numerous news stories about people killing themselves on these Lime/Bird scooters. So, no, I dont think there are laws on the books. It would probably be up to the individual municipalities or areas where they're located so it would vary depending upon location.
But, just dont ride them and you wont have to worry.
