Did you know that gender and genitalia are clear cognates? Because it doesn't seem like you do. It's built right into the words.

Eta: because my father was the main person who cooked meals for my family growing up (a typically feminine role in america) it does not mean that he was really my mother. Your social expectations is ridiculous.

I think you'll find that a ton of people who are very uncomfortable/in opposition to transgender people and transgender rights are also staunch advocates of more traditional gender roles and gender conformity. That certainly appears to be the case on tigerdroppings.

Perhaps, but the exact opposite is true of the pro-transgender crowd. They're in total opposition to traditional gender roles, yet transgendered folks tend to almost universally stick to those roles - sometimes to a comical sense.

They'll get breast enhancements and wear dresses and play with Barbies - all things that would be considered sexist and stereotypical if they were born a woman.

I've never seen a story about a transgender "woman" who was into guy things.

It actually comes from "genus" whereas genitalia comes from "genitalis"

Also, the way that "sex" and "gender" are used in contemporary English belies a clear distinction in meaning. They are not interchangeable no matter how much you'd like them to be.

If I was for harming children then I'd insist on telling a child that his or her gender expression is wrong just because it doesn't match their genitals.

it's okay to like activities that the opposite sex typically enjoys, you don't have to call yourself "trans" to do that shite.

What you posted makes WAY too much sense to be acceptable in today's culture, sir

What makes people who are attracted to children (but don't act on it) mentally ill, while men who want to have surgery to change their parts not mentally ill?

I'm being serious. I assume it has to be based in abnormality to normal human behavior to some extent, right?

No, that's called being a parent and telling your child how the real world works, not some fantasy fricking lala land.

If your child told you they felt like they were a fish would you let them go breath water? I mean, the simple fact that they were born with lungs instead of gills shouldn't stop them, right?

Or maybe they feel like a car. Should you let them drink gasoline? The fact that they have biological parts shouldn't stop their expression of wanting to have an internal combustion engine, right?

You are a sick, child endangering frick. I hope you have no dealings with children. And if you do I hope you are beaten about the face and neck with a heavy object by some decent citizen.

There's a lot of variety, in my observations. There are transgender people who are gender non-conforming in the sense that they are transgender, but they are gender conforming in the sense that they express their self-identified gender in very typical ways (like a trans man getting mastectomies, growing a beard, getting muscular, wearing men's clothes, etc). Not all trans people express their genders in typical ways, though. And there are gender non-conforming people who don't really pick one or the other.

I see it more living in a city like NYC than most people who post here do. The effect it has in public life is pretty much zero. I've only seen it become an issue when a prejudiced (for instance, transphobic) person makes it an issue.

I'm not sure why you would see a story about a trans woman who's into guy things... that kind of story isn't really noteworthy unless there's something else associated with the person that makes it interesting. I know a trans woman who is really into video games--does that count? I still think of playing video games as being a predominantly male activity.

You make a good point. There is a psychiatric disorder called "xenomelia". It's a condition where a person does not believe a limb or other body part on their own body does not belong to them. They will try to have it removed or cut it off.

It's probably self-defeating. You can hold up that all of these conditions occur at a similar rate to transgenderism and yet, our comparison will probably become a justification for why it won't be classified as illness/disorder. "It would be inappropriate to socially stigmatize transgendered individuals by classifying their experience as a disorder."

Pretty sure he got the point. The original poster's point is that people often elect to "identify" as the opposite sex after "being into guy/girl things." Hence, few of us have ever seen a transgendered female who still engages in mostly "guy" behaviors.
