No. You are the moron. Unnecessary congestions are caused by idiots like who who ignore the rules of the road and make up your own rules.

ou're an idiot. You realize the scenario that you are claiming the normal rational person does, is zipper merging. That's the whole reason for a mile or more notice, it gives you time to pass or be passed and then merge, which may take the better part of a mile because of assholes that don't want to leave an opening for others to merge into.
You're a fricking moron if you don’t think people wait until the last couple hundred feet to merge because they want to drive faster than the open lane.
why would anyone elect to move into the left lane with a bunch of people instead of driving to the correct merge point unimpeded? What the top poster is suggesting is that, if a bunch of morons decide to do it the wrong way, we are all required to go along with the moronics.
sorta like requiring us to call him ma'am.

You sound like one of those people who go 3-5 mph over the speed limit in the left lane and refuse to move for people travelling faster than that.

This could be fixed really easily if the DOT stopped advertising which lane is closed on those signs.

What about the arse holes that ride the exit only lane until the end?? We are supposed to just let them over?

No it doesn’t you idiot. If it did, we wouldn’t be having this argument.
We're only having the argument because of your ignorance and inability to accept numerous studies that are proving you to be incorrect.
It is a proven fact that merging toward the end of the merge lane is better for the flow of traffic.
If your insecure & fragile ego can't handle someone driving past you to merge and you're just emotionally lashing out like a child because of it, then just say that.

In a perfect world.
Let’s look at the image with the bus.
Those bigger vehicles are slow to accelerate so the rt lane isn’t going to wait and they will try to speed up and cut the bus off and not zipper. We’ve all seen this.

Yeah exactly, are we supposed to zipper with people merging on the interstate?
Or is it really up to the vehicle merging to do their thing?

Looks great in theory.
Until you get to the merge point and nobody give you the space needed.

Wrong!
It’s every man, woman and child for themselves first!
Get in there ……all the way to the front.

We approach the right lane closure, I am in the left, and have been for some time and I’m supposed to just let the people over who purposefully ignored the sign. frick all that.
And this right here is why the whole fricking thing doesn't work
This guy forces me into a situation where I just have to move over whenever I can bc if I wait til when I'm supposed he's gonna be an a-hole
Posted on 3/24/23 at 1:48 pm to Richard Grayson
Zippering doesn't work because too many people are playing on their cell phones.

He literally says it in his first post:

When you see the sign, “Right Lane Closed 1 Mile” fricking move your arse over to the left lane as soon as possible.
DOT is specifically telling you not to do this.

It works all over the country the same way it works in BR, which is not at all.

another big issue in this discussion is that the diagrams referenced here including in your post, traffic is moving and there is SPACE in between cars. In a perfect scenario when you've got multiple car lengths between each and traffic is flowing, sure everyone zipper! Works great.
In reality though there are mere inches between cars and we've already come to the point where it's stop/move up a few feet/stop/move a few feet/stop/repeat. Not so easy to zipper when we're at that point.

3+ pages because someone will inevitably come in and brag about how they don't let people in who "try to jump the line" by zipper merging
Even worse are those that try to take up two lanes because how dare someone pass them. Had a truck driver try this a while back. He must have seen me pass the dozens of cars behind him and he veered to try and take up both lanes, riding the dotted white line. But me and my Jeep took half the shoulder and went around him anyway. Then I called the "How's my driving" number on his trailer. Dumbass.
