Congrats!!! Keep it up!!
Just a question for others. I find the worst thing for me is when someone acknowledges my weight loss and starts complimenting me. When this happens I will “splurge a little” which turns into much more and I gain it all back over 6-8 months. Anyone else deal with this? Any tips to overcome it?

Track your weight and food intake everyday on MyFitnessPal or similar. Know that a splurge meal here or there doesn't matter in the long run, life should be enjoyed. But splurging everyday is no longer splurging

Congrats Man! I did the same thing in January. Just got tired of the person I became. Started walking/light jogging with a goal of being able to jog the Tiger 10K in December. I started eating better, not great. Eliminating a lot of my sugar/carb intake. Still have them but just less. Drink a smoothie almost daily for lunch. Not great by any means but better than Canes or Chick Fil A. I was able to jog the CCC in a little over an hour and am down 45lbs. No fad diets. No supplements. No crazy workout routine. Just eat better and jog. It’s really not hard. It’s all mental.

That’s just self control / mental weakness. Try eating Keto. It gets rid of a lot of the cravings and if you do “splurge a little” you’ll feel sick eating the carbs and prevent binging.
Come over to the Health and Fitness Board and we will get you right...

Only people it is not good for are those that have been lifting weights for years and are close to mazing out there natural muscle mass. I would say steroid users also but the unforeseen consequences of steroid use makes the bmi chart pretty accurate from a predicted health outcome approach.
Like myself, even at 245, I still carried much of the muscle I had accumulated from lifting consistently for over 10 years. A five year layoff hurt that some, but now I have been lifting for about 16 years in total and am pretty close to maxed out. Prolly could gain another 10lbs of muscle over the next 3 years or so to be completely maxed out. My BMI is almost 29 and I am considered overweight and close to obese even though I am below 15% bodyfat. But I am the exception and BMI works for almost everyone that hasn't been lifting hard for a few years.
But I will say body fat % is a better indicator of health, but like I said bmi works for 99% of the population

Was in the same place as OP many years ago.
I decided to start running, and the hardest thing was just getting out there each morning. Not the run itself.

If you want to lose weight and not get injured I would suggest you do anything besides jogging. Jogging is terrible for joints and burns little to no calories. Better options are fasted walking, rower, stationary bike, assault bike, etc

I do HIIT on an elliptical on a high resistance level. So much better on my joints. Jogging sucks

First go to the H&F board, tons of information and accountability & support threads. You will stick to it better if you do that.
Second is start using MyFitnessPal. You don't have to count your macros or anything, just eat enty of protein and hit the calorie goal or your weekly total on calories.
Avatar nutrition all is the best paid app imo. It's essentially like having a flexible dieting coach.

Faithfully logging all food intake reveals pretty much everything. If you feel the need to cheat on logging your meals, you can probably convince yourself that it is time for an intervention. Be true to yourself and you can quickly train yourself to eat better and still enjoy real food.

it really wasn't about being shamed, i couldn't care less. It's about Making up your mind, and a lifestyle change. I'm not young, so I will have to work harder, but I have the eye of the tiger like I haven't had in a long time, if ever.

This means you're losing nearly 4 lbs per week. This seems a bit much, unless you were like 50+ lbs overweight. I've always read that 2 lbs/ per week is the limit for weight loss, anything over that is not healthy for 'normal' people

<~~~level 5, 15-20 min.
The elliptical IMO, is the best cardio workout.

We're a lot alike. I am older than you by a good bit. I cut out drive-thru's, had some oatmeal and a banana for breakfast instead. I ate basically whatever i wanted for lunch. Went to get gym after work, my trainer has me on HIT high intensity training. I have developed the mindset of I'm not going to the gym looking at the clock to leave. When I feel I can't do anymore, I'll go. usually 1-1/2 hours a visit. I do go M-F, and a Sat AM. My gym has no AC, and the people there are mainly bodybuilders, and are real focused. They help me a lot.

Just cut your yard with a push mower every day in this heat, then weed eat. Not only will you have the best looking yard you will get a work out

Lol have you tried a rower or assault bike?

If you want to control hunger and cravings this isn’t a good idea. Your insulin will spike like a madman after this meal. I know we’ve been conditioned to think this is healthy but it is not. I’m also assuming your “oatmeal” is simply oatmeal and zero added sugar / other garbage.
Give intermittent fasting a go. Start with a 16/8 protocol. Fast 16 hours and your eating window is 8hrs.

No I haven’t and I mostly meant the elliptical IMO is easier on joints and muscles.
