WAFB Link to “ look ahead at projects planned to end traffic jams in Baton Rouge, surrounding parishes ”
Reading this article makes me wonder, what the hell have politicians BEEN doing about the traffic situation for the past 10 years?
Also, why the hell is $700,000,000 from an oil spill going to WBR Parish to connect LA-415 to LA-1?
Then there’s this little nugget:

Then there’s this little nugget:
quote:
Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome prioritized projects within the MovEBR plan. First on the list are upgrades to traffic signals on dozens of roads, including College Drive. Sidewalks are also considered a top priority.?“For us to make sure that we are doing our due diligence and for us to make sure that the citizens are getting what they are paying for, I think they will be very pleased with the prioritization but not only that, the thoroughness of what we did,” says Mayor-President Broome.?Other road enhancement projects throughout the parish could begin anywhere within the next 24 to 36 months.

BP was the ultimate ghetto lottery for the trial lawyers and corrupt local and state governments

Had a friend who is involved in politics wailing and gnashing his teeth that no BP money was going to build bridges and roads in Monroe and surrounding areas.
What the frick did the BP Spill impact north of I-10, and that’s being exceptionally generous

I said from the start movebr would turn into another slush fund. I was told over and over I was wrong and that “the funds were protected”.

The state says construction will start on Acadian Thruway and finish up at the 10/12 split to the Mississippi River Bridge. It’s a big chore that will cost $360 million and could take up to 10 years to complete.

Why is this going to take 10 years??
NTTA in less than 2 have expanded the DNT for 5 miles, PGBT for 5 miles, and SRT is ongoing (started last year).
The longest project was the 635 Texpress which they had to actually dig below grade in one of the most traffic prone areas of DFW.
A 10 year project will mean once its completed, they will need another 10 year project to fix the shortcomings.

For those of us new to the Baton Rouge area, is there a link to a map that shows where all of these improvements are? Should I assume that I-10 will be upgraded from one lane at the 110 bottleneck?

Assume nothing with this regime... or any other Louisiana road project for that matter. In fact, just set yourself up that the next 20 years are going to be construction hell - then if the work is completed a day or two early, you’ll be surprised.
The priorities will change in a few months and all work will grind to a halt in the name of another study.

Yet 35W between 820 and 114 remains a nightmare.

The problem is that these projects are not even going to begun for another 2-3 years.
Despite taxes being raised multiple times to support and fund them. Also, how will sidewalks alleviate traffic?

Every BR metro member, Governor, senator and representative that has anything to do with traffic in BR area in last 50 years should be beaten for not fixing it. This is usual for politicians, promise to kick the can down the road. And shame on listening to the people who told them BR will be ruined by a loop. BR IS ALREADY ruined with out the loop.

There a zero percent chance the project only costs 360 million, that’s hilarious

BR was ruined by Judge Parker and the deseg case.
A shite ton of the traffic in BR is people commuting from places like West Feliciana, Livingston, and Ascension because the jobs are in BR but non-horrible schools are in the outlying areas.
If something like St George were to thrive school wise, the growth would be in the city rather than in the outlying areas requiring heavy interstate use.

They tax just passed last year and was not even started collecting until last Summer. The sidewalk enhancements were part of the package from the beginning as requested by the taxpayers in community meetings and they are easy to start.
If you would do some actual research instead of just off the cuff bitching you would realize many of the road projects will be started within the next few months.
Some of you people would bitch if you were hung with a new rope.
