young baws, Take it from a mid-40's baw... as you get older you need to hydrate, hydrate, motherfriggin' hydrate especially if you're like me and regularly drink

I fought stones for 4 years until I could finally get myself in a habit of drinking enough water

Wouldn't happen to be Allopurinol would it? I had about 20 kidney stones I had saved over the years sent to a lab and it came back uric acid based.

First thing the ER and my Urologist did was X-ray my kidneys.

Seems like that should be a common starting point.

ETA: calcium stones - it is impossible to have too much water when dealing with them.

Turns out I have a giant stone (3/4 inch)

Holy crap!!! man that’s almost 20mm…
I’ve had them off and on … the largest was 8mm ..had to blast it twice with lithotripsy…
It’s a pain I don’t wish on anyone

It is in the lower left node of the kidney, so extracting it is apparently a little tricky. It would have taken several rounds of lithotripsy, so I opted for the route I'm taking.

How many people in this thread got offended with the other thread about fatties in this country?

Lose weight & drink more water.

<----Thanks Jesus, Buddha, Zoroaster, and errybody else he's been lifetime stone free.

Sorry to read these stories.

No one I'm related to (even through marriage) has ever, to my knowledge, had them.

Funny, I passed a small one last night, not much pain at all. In the last 15 years I've had two removed and passed a few more. They have been lees frequent and less painful over the last 3-4 years.
This is what has helped.
Try to drink two liters of water a day (have to make yourself drink that much), put lemon in your water, no soft drinks or tea. Drop some weight.

Being in the kidney .. they don’t usually want to do lithotripsy …as of the possible damage to the kidney it’s self is high
Good luck with the procedure

Thanks. I argued a Texas case (just the appeals) where a woman went without oxygen for ten minutes during a lithotripsy. She is in a permanent coma.

In my case the stent was as bad as the stones. For some reason my stones just gave me a constant urge to pee which was really agravating in its own right.

A kidney stone that’s 3/4 of an inch? How the frick are you not so dosed up with Dilaudid that you can’t post?

I had one that was about 12mm and I was basically high as a kite with all the stuff they gave me.

I remember mine. The fist indication was the brown urine but after a few days and drinking of water it disappeared....until a month later. I woke up about 4 am with a pain in my lower back. I got up and exercised and worked out thinking I may have pulled something and the heat an activity would lessen it but it did not so I decided to take a HOT soaking bath with jacuzzi jets blasting....along with 800 mg of ibuprofen. Sat in the bath and fell asleep for 45 minutes and still in pain. Then I dried off put on some underwear (barely) and laid in the bed. I called my paralegal and told her what was up and told her I would work from home. Slept for about 4 hours. Then I was fine. Then about a year and a half later I was at my Dad's house and I had another bout of brown urine. My Dad was a doctor and he looked at it and said

" One of two things....either you have an irritated prostrate or you have stones"

But the last incident was not painful. Long story short I had 2 stones shaped like mini dumbells and needed lithography. So they got pulverized and I pissed out gravel for 3 days
